Oh drop the sentimental scrap ... Its just another a rusted hulk of a junk train ... millions of locos, and trolleys worldwide were cut up for scrap, or purposely burnt, in a heatbeat ... some were still in running condition ... this one is completely gutted ... nothing left inside. It's a shame the owner didn't try to get rid of it before it got this bad.
Strasburg's already strapped for their current restoration LIRR #39, which they'll operate. Even that project needs another $800,000 or so to complete. Strasburg does indeed have a very good shop, but they're not going to restore a locomotive for free.I know some things are a waste of money, but that could have been prevented by repairing them previously. If the F7A had been worked on before this, it could have been saved. Also, why does it seem like no one is interested in restoring the other K4, besides from cost? Everyone is wanting to restore 1361 but they can't. Strasburg has a very good shop, maybe if they got it to operating, RRMofPA could let Strasburg use it to pay for the repairs. At least they are building a new roundhouse so that the outdoor engines will be protected.
