Are We Stuck Foerver With Auto-Database Repairat Launch?

I have had a few crashes (program hard stops) recently. This means that since I did not "gently" stop Trainz the next launch forces me into some sort of asset scan and repair. What is so unique about the Trainz program that it forces the customer to only exit by a proper process or else suffer a scan of the database? The only advantage thus far is that I now have a chance to complain in this virtual rubber room.

Dick, I've not it happen once to me. I wonder what your crashes are about (I'm sure you do too), perhaps you should run some memory test, and try to track down the problem.

I do larger amounts of editing of visuals to remedy the need for more reality, in my view. I do saves but it is always possible that a counter over run, or something like that, is a problem. I am not optomistic that some of the more obscure problems/challenges will ever be fixed except by accident when some code is changed for another reason.

I will probably have to bite the credit card and get that new socket 1155 mother board and an i5 2550K. At that point if problems continue to occur, with no attempt by the vendor to fix them, I have to reevaluate. Given the stuttering and pauses I encounter I am loathe to spend a lot of money when the vendor shows no concern, or is at least totally silent. Rather like making a blind bet with little chance of winning. That is why RailWorks is "on the shelf" awaiting a real update which is as likely as the Taliban embracing democracy.

boyled,
You may already know this but...
starting with TRS2006 CMP realise on a database to keep track of all the assets installed. When trainz crashed the database can be lost or have errors. When you start trainz it needs to fix the database, so it will do the auto database repair.
I will also agree with Ed. Try running a memeory test.

The Windows7 memory test at boot time shows the 8gb of Skil 1600 ok. I am less concerned about the crashes than the results from the crash. I do not expect any software from a game vendor to be 100%. Also, what I do with that software can be unique to my obsession with the appearance of the rail route. Sometimes I am so absorbed that I forget to Save and Autosave (45 minutes) kicks in and I panic believing that the program may have frozen. That feature saves me and serves as a stark reminder to save often. If the database repair that is needed after the crash, or lockup, was not needed it would make the event less troublesome. However, no one will say that they would get a 5% or 10% increase in sales if that was eliminated.

Finally, I am using an old ASRock board that is one of those migration things with IDE and DDR2 support. It is time to dump it. I bought a Cooler Master HAF case that is big and heavy with three 240mm fans and a 140mm fan plus an Antec 700watt supply. I thought that would spur me to spend the big bucks to take advantage of it. Maybe something like the cheap off-shore bus filter capacitors could be an issue due to the age and the many cool to heat cycles the motherboard has experienced. Back to adding vegetation and buildings along with AI scenarios and saving often..
