Any TS2009 only content yet?

Hi all,

I've been away for some time due to life events, and I'm returning now with the hope that there are some new layouts available somewhere that are compatible with all of the new features of TS2009. So I guess thats the question... are there any layouts yet built for TS2009 with all of the nice features working yet?

After a quick search through the download station it looks like there isn't much to be had on the layout front even though there are now over 700 items of ts2009 content available there now. I'm personally working on a big project, but, as was told to me before, its taking massively longer than I'd hoped. But that is around 200 miles of track, and I would think that something much smaller would be up by now. Anyway, please let me know.

Thanks,
Greg

You could probably help out there by creating something just a little bit less ambitious. Maybe others are also building routes with 200 miles of track, meaning we'll all be waiting for years to see anything. Seriously, a carefully developed 20 mile route can actually be more exciting.

As far as I can see there is very little on the DLS that actually needs TS2009 even items labeled as such. Normal mapping for example has been available since TRS2004. There is a different method of lod but I haven't seen any striking advantages over the old method of lod.

Layouts can take advantage of the new 5m ground textures but that appears to be it.

The other new features of TS2009 are not insignificant but appear to relate to CM2, performance and fewer bugs.

Content and Trainz 2009 Back Compatiblity

I am new to Trainz with only a copy of Trainz Simulator 2009 newly installed on my machine. Could someone be kind enough to tell me if the vast majority of material available through the DLS (which was not written for 2009) is compatible with Trainz 2009? Will I experience trouble if I download content written for earlier versions of Trainz? Is 2009, generally back compatible? Thanks ahead of time for any advice to this new user.

You can use most of the content on the DLS in 2009, in compatibility mode, but be prepared for errors or missing dependencies that should show in CM2. You may locomotives with no bogies for example. Some items may have to be repaired, and some will just require a hunt for parts.
Occasionally you will find an item that may cause trouble such as causing a route to crash. It's a toss up.

I've been considering this, but I'm not really familiar with any smaller stretches of track that might be worth modeling. To that end I've been tempted to start some sort of creative development, but again, not sure what to do.

Hi Rob,

In theory all stuff on the DLS will work or can be made to work on TS2009. Not in my case, however. No "stuff" from the DLS will work on TS2009 for me. They all have texture problems and show up white, even the TS2009 stuff. Layouts are OK if they only use the default stuff that comes with TS2009. I hope SP2 fixes it. (Yeah, right.)

I know you don't want to hear it, but that sounds like it might be a non-TS2009 problem, considering that I've never heard of this problem before you mentioned it here.

What are your system specs? DirectX version, etc?
