Any Small, Detailed Routes on DLS?

My interest is not so much in driving trains on long routes, but, rather, driving slowley along highly-detailed, small routes. I subscribe to Model Railroader magazine and find myself drawn to the highly detailed scenes shown in the photographs.

I don't have the skill, the room, or the financial position to create a real model railroad layout, but am interested in seeing what can be accomplished in Trainz. (I currently have TS 2010, and TS 2012 installed).

I'd appreciate any suggestions about small, detailed routes on the DLS.

Thanks,

Wes

Yes

Krashnburne
DowntownTraction.

Make sure you get the TS12 versions.

There are also sessions for all three.

Plus any route by gfisher. But be warned that his routes are so super detailed that unless you have the latest water cooled Cray computer you will not get frame rates over single digits.

My incomplete Mainstreet route is sort of along those lines, albeit very small and no working industry yet.

Curious what would be considered "small"? Compared to Phil's 1 and 2 tile routes Chicago Metro is a lot bigger, but at 15 miles wide by 10 miles high it's a lot smaller than most routes. On the other hand if you were to build the same route in HO scale you would need a single room building 900 feet by 600 feet, a little larger than the old zeppelin hangar at NAS Lakehurst. :hehe:

I guess by model railroad standards even a one baseboard route would be pretty big, 720 meters x 3.3 = 2,376 feet on a side, divide by 87 that would need a bit over 27 feet on a side in HO scale.

Thanks for the plug Rick, but I'm not sure that McCall fits the bill. It's certainly smallish (it could conceivably be built as a model railway), but it certainly isn't 'detailed' by any measure. It is as sparse as I could make it to leave plenty of poly's for the trains :)

If two-out-of-three ain't bad though have a look at another of my routes - 'Kanshino'. It is small (9 boards) it is about as highly detailed as I could make it and still get usable framerates, but it isn't on the DLS. There is a LOT of 3rd party content, but is all available from the same page at checkrail.com as the route.

seems how you subscribe to model railroader you might want to saxrt.com and go to the forums, then look in available downloads. In the routes section you'll find the Route Naugatuck Valley rebooted. While the route isn't exactly laid out as it is in the pages of MRR you can very easily follow along by using the route map from MRR. All industries are active and the route is very highly detailed. It took me some time to create the route. The also has the correct configured rail cars for each industry. You just need to add your own locomotives. I hope you enjoy it.

I don't know about highly detailed but, as for small, try my Elko and Lincoln in 3 versions on the DLS. It is my N scale layout expanded to one base board and only uses only built in content.
For something a bit larger, try my Niles, Hinton & Winchester, also built in only with a few unimportant exceptions. They work fine for me in TS2009 SP3.

How small do you wont :p Valley River Run is very small and has a lot of detail. the size it 1 square I do think. its not a big route at all. KUID2: 375451:1176:1
