Hi Guys!

Amtrak Considers Statewide Commuter Rail Services Similar to Amtrak California. Several major pinpoints in the proposal are :

Miami/Dade
Tampa/Clearwater/St. Petersburg
Orlando/Kissimmee
Jacksonville Metro
Tallahassee

This is brilliant idea. Amtrak thinks this is an alternative to nasty clogged highways, like I-4, !-275, I-75, I-95, etc. The service will be equivalent or similar to what the California DOT has with it's Amtrak California Services. This is ONE more large step to Florida High Speed Rail. They also met with local metropolitan leaders of the regions above. Several agencies are planning local mass transit companies to help local congestion ease up. TBARTA, also known as the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority is one of these companies. They have already came out to the public to see their viewpoints. TBARTA is to have their "Regional Master Plan" complete by the first of July, 2009.

Please, share your thoughts on Amtrak Rail in Florida

...And maybe reinstate the Floridian, while they're at it (or better yet, resurrect the City of Miami complete with unique color scheme! :D )...:p

The US is finally catching up of what the UK has done since the dawn of time, local services.

Are they planning to change track layouts in certain locations?

Maybe, I'm not certain. As this is ONLY a proposal, I can't determine whether or not any trackage will be modified, added, or removed. I can say one thing for sure. As TBARTA rolls in, there are going to be at least 100 rail stations, 200 bus terminals, and 10 Ferry ports throughout the bay area. TBARTA includes, but is not limited to: Rail, Bus, Premium Express Bus and Bus Rapid Transit(BRT), Ferry, Paratransit, and Special Charters. TBARTA is not an agency of competition with HARTline, PSTA, PCPT, MCAT, SCAT, THE Bus, and other bay area authorities. TBARTA is a supporting structure to prevent transit corruption in the Bay Area. TBARTA is a passenger and freight transport entity. All rail vehicles are TBARTA owned, unless leased or otherwise designated. You can see more information online at www.tbarta.com.

Here is the regional masterplan: http://www.tbarta.com/files/Initial Options_2008_02-19_sfs.pdf
