For years, I've been saying that users of both the major players in the rail/train sim market needed to work together for a mutual benefit. There were items in both that were only available to one sim and not the other - for example, MSTS had a very nice class 56, but Trainz didn't.
It's the same story, even now. Items exist that are only available in one or other sim - be it Train Simulator or Trainz Simulator. Why? Content for Trainz has already been ported across to Train Simulator - in some cases illegally and legitimately in others - and it's been demonstrated that they can and do work.
It seems that the software houses, producing these games have other ideas, though. Rail Simulator.com - who produce Train Simulator - have specific clauses in their EULA that prohibit content, regardless of whether produced by them or not, being ported over to rival sims and there's a suggestion that N3V Games have a similar one in their EULA, as well. Why? Surely, by working together - instead of constantly against each other - both sets of users can benefit from freeware content and sellers can open up new markets to increase their sales. It's win - win.
