All Trainz Veterans Please Read

Johnk

Boarded October 2001
If you ever used (or still use) Trainz Version 1, hopefully you can help us.

The Trainz Community News is currently running a series on the History of Trainz. The July issue will continue with this theme and we're looking for any material at all that involves Version 1. Things like:I still have some of Bob Shaw's "And that's all there there is to it" videos and a few banners, but there must be heaps more stuff out there:
  • Ads in magazines. I think Trainz even featured as a ad in Model Railroader.
  • There was also a TV ad. Once again I might have it, but let me know if you do.
  • Copies of posters used at exhibitions.
  • Pictures of Forum Waffle Cards
Each person will be credited for what they supply. So that there are no repeats, I'll add the item and the contributor's name to this post. That way we'll all know how much or how little has been found.

Come on guys and gals, dig through all your old Trainz stuff and see what you can come up with.

Please let me know what you have by posting here and help keep the thread alive. Just describe the item, no images required yet because we want people to download the TCN. I'll then get back to you via PM.

If you haven't already downloaded the June Edition of the TCN, you have no idea what you're missing. There's an article by Greg Lane the founder of Trainzand over 90 images of Trainz Cover Art by Charlie Lear and myself.

 Hi Johnk

Quote : I still have some of Bob Shaw's "And that's all there there is to it" videos and a few banners, : end Quote.

I think you mean Rob Shaw's :D .

Maybe you should mention some of the earlier members, the forum is 10 years old on the 1st August! Vern and I celerbrate 10 years on it 14 (Vern) and 16 (Me ) days after that. Check the PA profiles. :)

Thinking of someone though, where is "John Banks" these days? (Predates, Alan Yeomans, Lance Jago and even Zec! Oh yes, that was helpdesk.)

Electro,

I also may have Rob's videos, but if I can't find them, I'll come back to you. I may also have the banners, but I'll PM you with my email address. Don't send the vids though because I've run out of bandwidth.

What are the PA profiles? A list of foundation members would be great. I came across Trainz very early in the piece, but didn't join the forum for a long time after that. I dont consider myself a foundation member, but it would be great if we could get a short list together. Say the first 200. Unfortunately I only have five days til publication so I need to move fast.

I' went there, but it was several months ago and my needs have changed since then. I'll go back for another snoop.

I was thinking along the lines of those early publicity teasers Auran used to publish. Some of the artwork was really great - then.

 I hope there'll be some sort of event on these forums to note this milestone. Auran, please organise something!

Paul
They already are planning something, big !

For in 31 more days from that date they will be cutting off support for all the old versions 04/06.:'(

Thanks for those Peter. I can't even remember what my old Beta Tester's ticket looked like, probably the same. I'll look at the link tonight and see what I can dig up.

PerRock,

Even though your URL is the same as amigacoooke's except for the www, yours redirects to the 2010 web site. Amigacooke's works.

Try for the next release, I.e. August, as I feel that it is more appropiate.

EDIT:
John Banks PA Profile: https://www.auran.com/planetauran/view_profile.php?ViewingID=4&menuchoice=community (still active strangely)
Verns PA profile: https://www.auran.com/planetauran/view_profile.php?ViewingID=24
My PA Profile: https://www.auran.com/planetauran/view_profile.php?ViewingID=51&menuchoice=community

You may want to go through the "Viewing ID" to see each one, whether any of them are active or not is a different question.

I thought about having a party of mine around the time I've been in the forum, how does that sound for a celerbration? I've been here 10 years, so why not? And it depends if people can get here. (Google my location)

I will, but we work a month in advance. The July issue is finished and being proof-read. I'm working on August now.

Thanks for the links. I'll read them over coffee. Any other nostalgia would be great.

Regards,

John

Actually I think I remember that ad in Model Railroader. I also remember the Demo :P Glitched like hell on my old computer. :p

Oddly enough I think my first Trainz was UTC.

Looking at the You Tube Video link in Johnk's post, brought back some memory's of the earliest version of Trainz, and it just shows how much Trainz has evolved...

Thank you Johnk for the nostalgic video link
