AJS Tunnel Kit

I'm having some very basic trouble with the AJS tunnel kit. I'm using the type M track, which only has one track (the right one in the picture). I lay the tunnel, and add the left-hand track (using AJS track single). Then I get the portal (also type M), rotate and position it so that the tunnel ends line up, and it then snaps onto the tunnel track. (The portal has some grey areas where the track should be, with arrows.)

Then I try to add track outside the tunnel. When I add the track to the left line, although I add it to a point immediately underneath the portal, new track instantly appears to cover the grey area, as shown in the picture, so that the track is nicely continuous.

But when I try to add track to the right line, no new track appears, and the grey area remains. I can't add the track to the back of the portal so as to cover the grey area, only to the front of the portal (where it does indeed connect to the grey "track").

I must be doing something silly here, since nobody else seems to have had this problem. Any suggestions gratefully received!

Peter

Edit: Forgot to say that I have read Andi's documentation - several times. I'm using TS2010 build 44088.

If I understand correctly, you have already linked the tunnel to the portal? Instead, try adding the track to the portal first and then attach the tunnel. I have them on my route and have had no problems like this.

Or I might have and just forgot because I was full of beer or wine at the time?!?!

Thank you, Pfx, attaching the outside lines first has done the trick.

I've also had a lot of trouble moving the portal to the tunnel and getting it to snap. It seemed to want to snap in completely mismatched positions, but not the right one. I found the answer is to move the tunnel to the portal instead, and only then to add the second line. Andi's documentation seems to imply you add the portal to the tunnel; maybe that worked on TRS2004.

To summarise, this sequence worked:
1. Put the portal on the baseboard (doesn't need to be exact; it can be moved later).
2. Attach both outside lines to the portal.
3. Put the tunnel on the baseboard and move it to the portal - it will snap.
4. Add the second inside line.

Now I just have to tackle the problem of covering up the digholes.... tomorrow.

Thanks again,
Peter

There are two types of portal:

1. Those based on trackside objects which can be moved along the track.

2. Those (like the one you are using) based on 'buildables' where it is far easier to move the track and drop it onto the portal.

Thanks Andi, that clarifies things.

Thank you also for all the great content you have provided. I use your junction kit, now the tunnel kit, and plan to use your station kit. Your work is hugely appreciated.

Peter
