I recived an IM from a deaflotto092008 on AIM. And come to find out several other trainz user have gotten the same exact message but with the person claiming to be a FBI agent. And person has used several different names.
The message would look something like this.
Hello, this officer Adedayo Lawal from FBI
police here.We recover the sum of $200,000,000.00 from scammers and we and federal govt are willing to give all the people that have been scammed before the sum of $40,000 each and nigeria federal goverment said we should give the sum of $40,000 to each AIM and yahoo IM, we see on the scammer list ..and your IM is one of the SN we have to give the sum of $40,000...I am here with my staff ID card for you to know that i am a real member of FBI cuz i know that there are many fake FBI online that scam people of there money..we have arrested many of them and they are in our custody..be honest with us we dont like game and give us the right information about you so that we will not give the money to wrong person.

This person has used several different name like above he used Officer Adedayo Lawal. While other people have gotten him using other names claiming to be apart of the FBI.
And it going through trainzer after trainzer leads me to beleive that someone on this forum is gathering names from our accounts.
Also look here for a list of them and look who is at the top. http://home.earthlink.net/~deafy/scamalertlist.htm

Yes be warned any trainz user that has their AIM S/N in public view i got that same exact message from the same S/N but he use a different totally different name. If anyone gets this message DO NOT!!!!! give your bank account, credit card, etc. Mark that message on AIM as spam and block the user. as soon as he sends it to you.

This is why I never use AIM, only 2 people who are not Trainz users know the ID and I see them face-to-face. No offense to anyone, I just hate the thing, I only have it because it is tied to my email account.

Anytime an African government wants to give away money, you know something is wrong. If I thought it would be worth the effort, I'd say spam him back about winning free Antartican train tours.

My son showed me how all this works. On a pc that is fully secure to the internet, ie no pings will get to it, so as far as any remote machine is hunting for a nesting place then it will not gain access.
Hope that makes sense.....anyway...he wrote a small programme that reads all email addys that are held on the machine. Not just your messenger ones but all your contacts. From there on, if it was to be sent out with an email, it would harvest all the addresses from the recipients of an email.

Therefore the originators email address might not be the real address of the sender, but it's all hidden in the form of this little worm thats sending it all out.
One way to check any address of any suspicious email is to do a full header check of the email, which will show the origin of the email. Then using a tool like "Discombobulator" , available from www.grc.com, will help sort your piece of mind.

In other words ... those that have received these emails and messages, may have received them because someone on your messenger list may not have had a fully secure machine. Or, even if it was fully secure :o , then something is not setup correctly, knowing the way AOL wants to control all it's users.... then it's more likely a simple thing like AOL selling on email/messenger addressess, so thats another story entirely.

WARNING ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't let join them PLEASE DON'T DO THAT! THANK YOU!
