AI tutorial

Approach_Medium

Trainz Addict
Hi;
Could someone tell me where to go for a good tutorial on AI for TS2009?
I am interested in setting up scenarios for multiple trains to run on my route with meets, etc.

Thanks

FW

well, Im at a loss for where to find a tutorial (learned it myself)... but the first step in learning how to force the drivers to do as you say, is to familarize yourself with the different track objects and functions

Are you familiar with the different functions of the track objects?

Hi fwassner,

The secret of getting multiple trains to run at the same time is timeing.
If you are running double track there is usually not much of a problem except on crossovers, but if you are running single track with passing loops you will likely need a trackmark on one side of the loop and a trigger on the other side. This way you can have one train drive to the trackmark, stop, and wait for the trigger on the other side to be activated by another train.

Cheers,
BIll69.

The Trainz Resources Directory lists heaps of tutorials including the ones here. TRS 2009 isn't advanced enough to have its own manual yet, so anything that works in TRS2006 should also work in 2009.

Good luck.

Whoops, I forgot to tell you, the tutorials can be found in the Tutorials section of all places.

Thanks guys!
I think this will keep me busy for a while<g>
I have never really run AI before, except to let it drive a train or two.
I have never used trackmarks, but have been using (ATLS) triggers for my grade xings. I have recently learned of using them to slow trains gradually before reaching slow turnouts, etc.
I have also begun experimenting with rules.

One thing I found last night while AI was driving two trains is that it failed to slow at an approach signal. Track speed was 40mph, train was moving at that speed, and continued to do so until it reached a stop signal.
Maybe I need so set a rule or two.

Trainz is such a fascinating, brain-teasing, enjoyable, fully involving, and yes, sometimes frustrating "game". I love it, and never run out of new things to learn.

Thanks

FW
