AI/Human control?

Hi;
I was wondering whether it would be possible to have both human and AI players in TS2009.
I think it would be a lot of fun to let AI run all but one of the trains, let me run just one of them.
Is this possible?

Thanks

FW

I know I'm missing something here, as that is the whole point of the game, basically?

Yes, that is possible, by setting up sessions or downloading them from the DLS.

I must also be missing something. After reading this post, I went into TRS2004, set up three trains in Surveyor, went into Driver, clicked on DCC put two trains on AI, went to the third train and ran it on manual or human control, and it worked fine. You can pick any one of the trains and change it back and forth while all of them are running.

You can also program trains emitted by portals to drive to a certain point under AI and then use manual control to perform some specific functions like set-outs and pick-ups and then send it on it's way again with more AI.

It probably sounded stupid, but I have never set up a session with AI in any TS.
I have been working mainly with Surveyor, and done only occasional driving, usually with only one train.

I'll have to start playing with AI and sessions.

Thanks

You bet it does!
Have you ever tried to read the Manual, believe me it helps not only that you’ll will find a lot more interesting stuff that Trainz can do.
I don’t want to sound harsh, but have you tried experimenting with Trainz or have you just used the surveyor and nothing else.
It all sounds like you have been missing out on what Trainz is all about, you must learn to have more fun. You’ll thank me in the long run!

I say, the poor fella probably feels a right pilchard now! fwassner obviously has referred to the manual many times otherwise Surveyor would be a total mystery to him.

As the chappie says, he's mainly only messed about with Surveyor and driven one train (probably to test his Surveyor work) so the business of Sessions, Scenarios and such like is a bit of a fog to him.

The Forum is ome of the great strengths of Trainz - it's a friendly community where if you get a bit stuck, there's always a pal to help you out. It's not really the place for a bit of point scoring.

I can't be bothered with the manuals either. Since documentation started appearing in "Adobe Acrobat" or "HTML" format instead of giving me a nice glossy book to read at bedtime, software and games manuals are boring, boring, boring!

fwassner - don't ever feel stupid for asking basic questions! Many of us on here are only too pleased to help!

Hi FW,

A very good example and also working with trs2009 is the Harbour Master route from philskene and its session: HM 1b NewBe (kuid2:69871:100446:1).
Ihmo this is exactly what you're looking for in respect of you driving a train that needs to encounter or even dodge :hehe: multiple AI trains en route.
Have a look at this thread to get the documentation and layout maps as well.
If you like it there is a second session now too. ( an announcement I completely have missed so it seems )
Phil has made more and bigger, more realistic routes based on the same concept, so if you like this one you could try those as well.
Enjoy, and don't forget to check in Surveyor how it's done. ;)

Greetings from nighttime Amsterdam,

Jan

JW,

Just keep in mind that there are no stupid questiond asked in these forums, but you will find answers that range from obnoxious to silly to "making it up as they go". Hope you enjoy Driver and if you need more help, this is the place to ask.
