Accented letters don't show...

Sorry for the double-posting, but I'm not getting any response in the Trainz Mac forum (which doesn't appear to be very active anyway). The title says it all: accented letters don't show in the names of routes/sessions and in various HTML-assets. Example: the Bad Schandau - Děčín route shows merely as Bad Schandau - Dn. There are similar examples to be found in the Niddertalbahn route.

The default code page on my Mac (OS X Lion) is UTF-8, so I'm wondering why these accented letters don't show in Trainz. The Trainz mini-browser wiki says that the default there is UTF-8, as well. I haven't been able to find any setting in TS:Mac that I can tweak in this regard.

Does anyone here have an idea as to how to solve this?

Not a lot of help but Decin is how it's spelt in 2010, content manager doesn't recognise accented words.
You could try and change the route name.

Well, I notice that Content Manager in TS:Mac does in fact recognize accented letters, but sorts them after the regular ASCII letters. So, look for Děčín assets at the end of the D...listings.

You could try and change the route name.

Already tried making a new session with an accented letter in the name: shows up OK in the Content Manager (sorted as mentioned above), but that letter does not show in the Routes and sessions once Trainz is started.

Any German users here? How do you get your "Umlaute" to show?

Just re name the route in cm, the asset details box.

Hmm, I think this has to do with how the trainz engine handles character code. I presume the old paradigm of 8 bytes per character is used and that means only the first 128 ascii chars from a set can be properly used and displayed. If an unsigned char variable (c and c++) is used then one can apply up to 256 ascii positions, but even then it fully depends on what kind of ascii set is used. Not all have accented characters in their higher 129 to 256 slots.
I have some russian content that shows up only as numerous question marks with some underscores in between as a name. :hehe:

I noticed the problem with accents some time ago when I uploaded some representations of classic Paris Metro rolling stock to the DLS and tried to include a description in French for the benefit of French trainzers. The description could not be understood!

As a former, long-time Mac user I should point out that PCs and Macs do not always use the same codes for various characters, and I had great problems when trying to use Mac documents on a PC after transferring using rich text format.
