Abutment Suggestions?

Routelayer Ordinaire...
Hello All,

I was wondering what people use n terms of abutments for overhead bridges. I went to the DLS today to find some and well...after typing in abutment, I came up with a grand total of 4 options, none of which fancied my taste. :'(

I posted this question a long time ago, before the forum crash but I think it's an important topic and I'd like to hear people's recommendations.

Does anyone know of a simple, easy to use object or spline for this purpose? I can think of a several ways to make a good looking one but it requires at least 3 walls per side so it's extremely time consuming, high on the polygon count and depends on precision to look good and I was hoping that maybe somebody knows of 1 suitable object I could just plop down and use...

I'm making this route in TRS04, so please keep that in mind.

Here's a pic of what I mean:

Hi Dermy,

Those might work well for track, but I was looking for something that would "cover the hole" for an overhead road or highway.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

I use four abutments, all are low poly.

From the DLS by Josef Pav:

Bridge end stone KUID:46162:24001
Bridge end darkstone KUID:46162:24003
Bridge end concrete KUID:46162:24002

(Once installed, these are found in the track objects menu)

For splines, I use from the Trainzpedro website:

wall_concrete_ballast KUID:85701:37007

To find this spline go to http://trainzpedro.cz/
Click on english.
Click on splines.
Scroll down to "Operne zdivo" and download "walls_pack.cdp"

Hope this helps!

I usually make my own from "Stone Retaining Wall Dirty" or "Brick Wall 25M" If you dig up the "Tips And Tricks Surveyor" thread I"ve shown how to do it.If you search for Pier on the DLS you"ll find some useful stuff.

Many Thanks Everyone

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your suggestions. :)

@ Bob - Those breakwater splines will come in handy for the marinas/docks/etc...that I'll make, but I don't think they'd work well as an abutment because of the width and staining of the water (unless of course this track was flooded VERY high VERY regularly :D :hehe: [although in another part of my route, the track was raised on an embankment for that exact reason ;) ])

@ Reinaldo - I typed in "bridge ends" into the DLS and unless I'm doing something wrong, nothing came up.

@ leader2302 - I'm a big fan of Joseph Pavlov's work :) and I did download those abutments a long time ago (and forgot about them). Thank you for reminding me of them! They would work very well for track crossing over a river or road but I'm doing the reverse (road going over tracks) and will do that many times in my route (since there are so many idiots on the roads, the board of directors/private sector and government have pooled in a good chunk of money to start upgrading those level crossings into bridges, even though there will are still quite a few level crossings hehe).

I did download that .cdp from the Czech/Serbian website and will install it shortly to tinker with. I run T.O. after I install anything and well...let's just say it takes me about 6 mins a run and then another 2 or 3 to get TRS going again. Again, many thanks for the link/kuids!

@ Derrmy - I tried your suggestion and got a look similar to what you showed via the picture. That will work quite well in my route as most of the abutments would be concrete anyhow. I wonder if the cars might overlap (as the roads overlap) but that's a small price to pay (and an unlikely event) for that look. I suppose there are no shortcuts to making things look fairly real (except for say, David Drakes cityscape splines  ).

@ Lewisner - I am actually subscribed to that thread but I must have missed that part of it. I'll take a look for pier on the DLS now.

Again, thanks everyone! I think others in the community will benefit from these unique items and solutions! :D
