A very basic question

Umm ... How do I take a screenshot? I don't have any software that didn't come with the computer and using the Print Screen key just produces .TGA files I can't view. Is there some easy way to do this without buying any more software?

You can download the free version of FRAPS from fraps.com, that's how I do mine.

Get Irfanview from www.irfanview.com
It's an free image manipulation program that does an awful lot more.
You will need to resize your tga and convert them to jpg if you want to post screenshots on the forum.

I use photo shop, but I suppose you don't want to spend that much just to convert targa into jpegs.
I think pasteing them into word works too.

the advantage to using an translator program like IRFRANVIEW is that while in TRS you can take multipul pics and they are all stored the you can go in and convert them, resize them, etc. also bmp files are bigger and usually have a crappier resolution when toyed with. personally I use FRAPS; its easy and it can take multipul images without having to minimize/exit the program your in. you can also assign it a easy key ( [\] for me) and it sticks thru all the programs that it allows you to take pics in (media players, games, etc) it also can take movies of what is happening on your computer. oh another advantage is you can tell it to ignore the mouse and the FRAPS readout on the screen, which makes it easier for taking photorealistc pics, you don't have to later go in and edit out the little white arrow (or what ever color it is ) the down side to FRAPS is that the freeware/demo version will only save your screenies as bitmaps and also only allows you to take 30sec videos at a time.
