A shay returns to Silver Plume!

Klinger

The Chicago CTA guy
Officially now. Today marked our first real trip down the hill with ex-Westside Lumber Co. #9. We have had 2 days of test runs, going from yard limits and back, but today we took out all the stops, and went for a ride! First trip was to truck farm and back, second trip down to High Fill, and the third trip was the big one, all the way to Devils Gate and back. She is really a wonderful engine, its amazing to see how far she has come in the last year and a half. She steams easy, I actually had to do several blow downs to get rid of water because she was building so easily. That and we were not using much water.

Were still about a week away from putting her in service, but very soon, the thunder of a shay will be heard in the Colorado Rockies once again

It seems like practically all of the existing West Side Shays have, at one point of time, been on the GLRR. Nice to see a shay back there. (Seeing as I am used to seeing them one the line)

So far the loop has seen 4 different Westside Shay's. the 8, 9, 12 and 14. The only one's that have not been to the loop are the 7, 10, and 15. So we have seen over half the remaining Westside Shay's here.

Awesome to see a WSLCo. shay on the loop again, but I'm still waiting on the colombian 2-8-2 DRGW.net said was rumored to be on its way back north... ;)

Um...somebody call the cops, I think I forgot my meds this morning...AGAIN.

9 got a fresh coat of paint today, tomorrow she will be shined up, and the last few projects taken care of. We installed leather straps on the windows to hold the operators in the cab when backing down the hill, the rest of the front end work was finished (except some minor details) and the smokebox and firebox painted. Were suppose to warm her up tomorrow to test the electrical system tweaks we made, as well as test the radio.

The goal is to do some test runs on Friday, and put the engine in service on Saturday!

I got to take 12 up the hill from Hall Tunnel to Silver Plume after we were done posing for pictures. Can't help but feel its the last time I get my hands on 12's throttle.
