A message for all content creators

After speaking with a prolific content creator, I decided that despite the fact that it has likely been said before, I would like to pass on my apprectiation and thanks to all the content creators who dedicate so much time and effort into producing the thousands of high quality assets that we are so lucky to have available, including reskins which help expand on the range of existing assets.

Although not all content is relevant given our worldwide locations and own particular areas of interest, I often see items that I would be happy to use, should I have the need. As an UK/Irish enthusiast, these are the items I tend to download most, although I never cease to be amazed at the gems I find from across the world, which fit in nicely as scenery items.

It is through this collective effort, particularly from an ever-growing hard core of creators, that Trainz is such a rewarding hobby for me. Unfortunately, there are too many names for me to list them all but I hope you realise who you are and that your continuing efforts are greatly appreciated not only by me, but I'm sure by many thousands of other Trainz users across the globe.

Keep up the hard work.

Kind regards,
PFX

Spot on. I have such an attitude of gratitude for everyone who creates content and is willing to share it with this fantastic community or railroaders.

Keep the faith.

Hi Everybody.
Along with pfx and all the other posters I am sure we would all like to raise a virtual glass and call a toast to all the Trainz content creators who continue to make our simulator and hobby what it is today.

Its great to hear thanks, so rare these days, amongst the many moans and gripes about this or that.

May I also add that for creators PLEASE ensure when an asset has been checked to upload to the DLS so multi-player and later releases of Trainz can use it.

Saving it to a NON DLS site ensures that it will eventually be lost to the community.

I would also like to add my thanks as well, as without the content creators, we would all only have assets created by Auran/N3V, and no others.

EDIT: I will agree with you there barn700, as that is one of the major issues I face (I can understand it with payware content, but for freeware content it does make it trickier to get hold of, and also if the site where it is held is closed, the content that it held is lost forever if it is not also on the DLS.

I know some content creators do not like the idea of uploading to the DLS, it will make things easier in the long term, and multiplayer routes have to have the content on the DLS.

I believe I can answer that...

By uploading to the DLS, you agree to let Auran use it any way they see fit, which could include packaging it up with the newest version of Trainz. This thought has put off a few people, and therefore they maintain a separate site.

In my opinion, demanding that anything people make be uploaded to the DLS could be the Kiss of Death for any future content...

Back on topic, I would also like to thank ALL of the creators, idea people, Auran, and all those who help make this game great.

Easier for N3V to put my content out there for members to do with it whatever they wish? I'm not signing over my rights any longer to N3V on my content.

Now back on topic. I would also like to thank all of those talented creators out there that have provided us with so much great content and who have taught me so very much. Thanks.

Hi guys,

I do think that at this time of the matter about creating and releasing assets for Trainz, my position is clear-cut:

Plenty of gratitude to ALL creators being everywhere: On the DLS, a flea market, a news stand, a snack-bar, a tennis table, a folder, a floppy disk, a shoebox, a toothpaste tube, a handbag, a wallet, a hand, a pocket, a payware website, a clothes drying rope, a fridge, a watermelon, a vault, our beloved Third Party Ssites, a ... bla blah blah and or even in a .cdp. :hehe:

The DLS is no longer what it used to be for me and the rest the IBTZ staff and almost everything has already been said, typed, insisted, manuscripted, repeated, denied, stated, agreed, disagreed, debated, disputed, worshipped, criticized, clapped, booed, sunblown, guarded prætorially, and even whined about it.

What I simply agree is that no current diversity of Trainz Contents could have been possible without all these creators, everywhere and every home site; Auran and now N3VRFailers could never have been able to do it in a thousand years to come.

Thanks for the great creations!

Good evening everyone.

I am forever amazed and grateful for every asset and texture that has been created which I have had the pleasure to browse, select, use and enjoy in building my little Worlds in Trainz. I take every opportunity to thank the content creators, and will continue to do so.

Their contribution to Trainz is a very substantial part of its continuing success. They are the greatest bunch of creative talent that N3V/Auran never paid.

Why should they be expected to create for nothing, and then be constrained to one repository, if they feel that recent changes go against the philosophy which drove them to create in the first place?

Suggesting that they should so do is unlikely to encourage them to comply.

Let those who have decided to continue to create, and any new, bright, up and coming stars, have the freedom to upload to wherever they wish.

Back on topic: Thanks again guys for all of your great work!

Hi all.
Thanks to ALL content creators both payware and freeware for making assets.

Off Topic bit.
Ok, here's a idea that may hopefully go towards smoothing things out between the DLS uploaders (plus N3V) and the non-dls off-site camp.

How about a new sticky thread that is updated by request, listing all off site kuids collections web addresses, and maybe if some sites mostly contain certain authors kuids, could include the kuid start number (ie. my kuid number (CaptEngland) is kuid:188335) so that people can more easily find non-dls kuids.

At the end of the day, IF the non-dls people want others to find their stuff, please let new-comers know and hopefully this will stop so many `HELP, I can't find kuid:XXXXXX:XXXXXX` posts (and yes, I am guilty of that type of post).

Regards.

Snip....The DLS is no longer what it used to be for me and the rest the IBTZ staff and almost everything has already been said, typed, insisted, manuscripted, repeated, denied, stated, agreed, disagreed, debated, disputed, worshipped, criticized, clapped, booed, sunblown, guarded prætorially, and even whined about it.

As well as discussed. disseminated, tossed about, moaned, mulled over, applauded, hated, forgotten, abhorred, passed over, approved, decried, disapproved, suggested, dissected, uploaded, griped, constrained, reeled, shouted, complied, cried over, cursed, whinged about, gone gaga, opinionated, realized, amazed, demanded, didn't like, turned mental, left alone, not used, fought over, concurred, derided and written about :p.

A also agree, where would we be without these talented content creators, who have enriched our trainz experience beyond our wildest dreams (sometimes).

Cheers

Fellow Trainzers, before this descends into a pie-fight, I would like to reiterate that I created this thread purely as a gesture of thanks to those who do take the time and effort to make assets available for all, free of charge, and for no reward other than the satisfaction of knowing others are benefitting from their work. What I am seeing developing here is a great disappointment to me and an even greater disservice to the people I am trying to thank.

I would urge you all please, please, please, not to post on this thread if you are going to start a criticism of the whys, wheres and whatnots of what is right and what is wrong about availability of content. If this thread is seen by some as a fan-boy thread, then it is only as a fan of the content creators. I don't believe my OP made referral to anything other than that.

I cannot stress enough that this thread is nothing more than a thank you and I would dearly love it to stay that way. If you don't wish to follow that vein, I kindly ask that you please refrain from posting on the thread.

Many thanks.

Three things make the Trainz experience a worthwhile and lasting one...content, content, and content. Auran and N3V provide an excellent base to start from, but it's the vast (and sometimes intimidating and frustrating, yet always satisfying) content selection that keeps the experience fresh. When I first purchased Trainz 2010 EE, I wrote a rather sarcastic letter to the N3V president about having released a beta as a final product. For that, I offer my most humble apologies. Yes, the program takes an extraordinary amount of patching to get it working, and yes, there's still a few bugs, but to have produced the product that improved the experience of Trainz as much as the 2010 EE has, yet still have it be backward compatible with so much of that vast content reservoir on the DLS is nothing short of miraculous. So a huge thanks to all the content creators, and may all their machines keep humming along! And along with that thanks, a huge thanks to all the folks at N3V for their fine efforts in providing such a fine showcase for all that is Trainz :D

I 100% agree with what you have posted their pfx. The early posters on the thread just wanted to join with you in just saying thank you to everybody who has created content for Trainz whether that be in the past or in the present.

I would remind those now on the thread that want to turn this into just into another flame war that all the arguments have been thrashed out any number of times and I am sure everyone is well aware of them.

Auran/NV3 have made their decisions and policy is now in place, I would suggest if anybody feels that strong about copyright infringement etc then there are the civil courts to be used.

Therefore I say again to all content creators thank you for making this simulator and our hobby what it is today.

Now let's get the thread back to where it started " saying "thank you" and nothing else

Bill

Dear PFX,

My apologies if my joining in has created such a state of disappointment in you. ;)

According to the old British saying... " My thread, my castle" :hehe: where I dare to tell others what to do, what to write and what to think...

And as script side notes put in theatre and screen plays...

[Alberte vanishes... and adds himself on his Ignore List advancing others' intentions] :D

My thanks be to all of our content creators, who have made Trainz practically unlike any other simulator. :D ;)

Many scenery objects can be used in various regions, so the usefullness of many assets is outstanding. ;)

Regards.
