A Great Feature...so soon removed?

Briefly, one was able to upload pictures directly from their computer, and already this forum has returned to the crappy old way of having to go through imageshack or photobucket. What an incredible disappointment. You guys finally made uploading pictures a snap...then ruined it.
Unbelievable.
Can we at least try and make this forum actually have features people want to use?
Sorry if I sound rude, but really, leave the good features. I was elated when I found that feature, and less than 72 hours later, you have removed it.

I have to wonder if that feature is why the forum was running like molasses in winter the past few days.

I mean, I love the idea of the forums being able to host pics, but the forums often run like crap even without all that extra bandwidth.

I agree with RR. Having the forum host pictures would add a LOT of storage space that can best be used elsewhere. This forum, especially, generates threads with hundreds of pictures in them - Screenshot panel for sure. Each of those pictures takes a finite amount of space on a server somewhere. That space has to be paid for. Are you willing to pay even more for a FCT or new version to have the ability to upload directly from your computer? Maybe, maybe not. I'm on the not side.

EDIT: I suppose we could pay for it by allowing advertising to appear on all our pages (other than N3V/Auran). I just love all those animated GIFs, flashing text, scrolling picture frames, and eye-crud on web pages. NOT!

I don't think that it is safe to link a photo directly to your PC hard drive ... I have been using PhotoBucket, Hosthenpost, Imageshack, and other photo sharing sites forever, and it seems safer and very easy.

For most forums that allow this, it isn't linked to your hard drive. Instead, the photo is actually uploaded to a server on the site itself. You can move, alter, or even delete the photo after you upload it and it will still be present in a post, because the link is internal to the forum. I use my own site to host pictures, so it really doesn't make a difference to me. I do agree that linking to your home computer is a bad thing.

It's also not possible to do that, unless you are running some form of server software. In which case, yes, it wouldn't be safe.
