A few session questions...

Routelayer Ordinaire...
Hi All,

I'm in the works of building a session and I was wondering if anyone here could help me answer a few questions.

1) if I construct a session with some various 3'rd party rolling stock in a consist and someone else loads that session without the 3'rd party rolling stock, will the consist *shrink* or disappear completely.
2) Is there a way to force the session to start on one driver in particular? In testing the session, it always seems to start on the first driver I placed and I'd rather it start on another driver.
3) If I add some trackmarks, would that change the map? I was told that if I added rolling stock or rules, it would not change the map...

Any help would be most appreciated! ^^

1- If they get your session from the DLS and all the rolling stock you've used is on the DLS it will download all rolling stock automatically. If you upload your session to a different location all required rolling stock will need to be downloaded manually. In both cases missing rolling stock will cause the "black screen of death" to appear when the session is loaded in Surveyor and if loaded in Driver the programme may well crash. Been there, done that! :hehe:

2- Depends if you're running in 04 or 06. In 04 you simply make Alistair the driver in the loco you want played. Because he is first on the list the player will always be directed to his loco. In 06 I think Aidan is the default first driver.

3- Adding anything aside from rolling stock, drivers and rules will default to "Save map...". There is a trick I've uncovered using invisible rolling stock as a trackmark:

I should add that you can also change the time and the weather and the level of realism as well as programming portals. It's all saved as a session. Trackmarks or scenery objects placed or moved will ask you to save as map. If you have to save as map then others can only play your sessions as long as YOUR map is on the DLS (or wherever you're storing it).

Hope that helps.

Hi Midland!

Thanks for the answers! I tried looking on the forums and in the content creators guide, etc...but there wasn't that much information about sessions and so yeah...

I am building a session based on anothers route in trs 04 (he has given me permission to upload). He has also granted me permission to modify the map if I wish (which I might do in the future) but for now, I want to keep it as his. I have not added any objects to the map and I do plan on uploading it to the DLS eventually. The problem is, I have used several pieces of rolling stock that are from third party sites. I have no problem trying to help others find them (and I guess it can't be too hard to find them if I found them but I don't want the average user to have to spend 2 hours getting all the rolling stock needed to work!). If the map will load without the cars in the consist (i.e. there is a 90 car train and say, 30 cars are from a third party site, so I was hoping it would just load 60 at the bare minimum) then I will consider that satisfactory. I'll have the session beta tested in that case to see what happens but I was just wondering...

I have several Alistair clones (hmm maybe that's why I'm having hiccups alpha testing the session! :D ) driving a few other trains/streetcars (trams) so would I have to only use one Alistair, or have the first Alistair I have placed driving the train I want?

Thank you for the advice and tips! I have changed the portals output, the time of day and the frequency of the weather (it's set up as a rule at the moment but I might delete the rule and just go with the auran weather settings).
