Iam building in narrow gage , is there a way to lable and keep all the narrow gage idems in one list in Surveyor inventory , to make it easy to find? Is there a way to set the snow elevation to one height , so you can go over your moutains and your snow covered at one elevation? Thank You Al Cassell

Greetings funnnyfarm,

is there a way to lable and keep all the narrow gage idems in one list in Surveyor inventory

In ts2009 and trs06 you have the 'Picklist' where you can drag/drop items into. This works either from surveyor or CM2, although CM2 is much easier to add them from.

Once in Surveyor, to see your 'Pick List' items, click the 3rd icon on the top left which looks like a 'Y'

To add items to the picklist while in Surveyor drag the 'name' of the item across the screen and drop it in while the piclklist is visible.

Once really nice feature which the picklist helps to create is multiple Categories of objects as saved searches.
For example:
Lets say one wants 4 seasons of groups

1. To create a Winter Group find all the assets you want (perhaps using a search on snow, winter, etc...) and add all the items with drag/drop (used this way the Picklist acts as a place holder for your soon to be saved search)

2. Once you have all you want the items you want included select them all in the picklist (hilight the top item in the picklist, hold shift and scroll to the bottom then click the last one) while they are all higlighted click the button located in the picklist area titled "View In Map List"

3. Finally, to save this as your Category look in the 'Search' window and click the button the titled "Save"and name it something appropriate, I preface mine with the letter z so that I know it is my personal search.

Do steps 1-3 for each season/category you want.

When you are ready to work with a winter scene in Surveyor click the tab of your zWinter objects, add them to the picklist (after first clearing out any other items you dont want listed in the picklist) and go crazy in Surveyor.

Hope this helps you get the most out of a wonderful feature.

Regards,
Lenny

You sure that works in TRS2006, fuzzies? I can't get anything from a pick list to show up in the search filter.

Greetings gfisher,

To be honest I made an assumption that 06 would operate the same as 09.

I assume :) we both know what assumptions do.....

I did a test in 06, and it works pretty much the same

Maybe I was unclear on how to get the picklist items to a search filter automatically

1. Create picklist using any method

2. Hilight all items in picklist, then click the button located in the picklist panel called "View in Main List"

3. All the items should now be in both places. ( the pick list and the search/edit asset screen)

4. In the Search panel click the button called 'Save' and name it anything you like

I hope this helps you to get it working.

EDIT: I'm using CMP v1 build 3335 if this make any difference

EDIT 2: Enclosed a pic

I created the filter based on items with fisher in the name and saved it as a filter named gFisher

Greetings again gfisher,

I guess since there is no equivalent picklist similar to the one in 09 while in Surveyor for 2006 one would have to disable all assets, choose the saved search and enable only those items contained in the saved search from within CMP.

Sorry how I answered earleir since I was referring to the post by funnnyfarm which said

Sorry want home fore a while. I am running TRS2006 & 2009. Thankyou

and my bad bad assumption again made me believe 2009 would have been the one he would be using.

Hope this helps,
Lenny

A technique that I use that might help you a little: when I'm creating a route using a certain theme, I create a simple one-baseboard layout and anything I find that looks like it might fit with my theme, I stick it on that baseboard. Gives me a chance to look at it in both Surveyor and Driver, and later I can open that route to remind myself of what I have. Kinda like a visual archieve.

Thanks for trying to help, Fuzzies, I was just trying to clarify things and see if I could learn something new. I use the keywords in TRS2006 a lot, and you can do the same thing in TRS2006 by assigning keywords in CMP like say "MyWinter" to assets you want to use in a winter route. You could do the same thing with "narrowgauge".

@wmmeyer: Thats sounds like a great way to organize items as well. I will have to remember that when I finally get brave enough to actually start a route. :)

@gfisher: I know what you mean about the learning part. I come on most days and learn quite a few new things each day from you veterans. Thanks to you and the other veterans I'm getting close to information overload and am loving it. :)

Lenny
