8800 GTX Antialiasing problems

Have just installed the 8800 GTX card and found that the antialiasing is not working in trainz 2004.
Have updated all drivers, tried all different settings in nvidia control panel.
The new card is fine with other software, must be a 2004 problem.
Anybody else had this issue with this card?
Any help appreciated.

Colin.

I have one of these cards.. in the original box. Because it does not support the sharpness control, I can't get the image to be as sharp as with a 7900GTX. Sure it renders quite fast, but I was not able to get antialiasing with Trainz, so I have a 7900 active and very happy with it. For now I can't use the 8800GTX. If anybody wants it I will sell it.

Hi Colin

I have a 8800 GTX with TRS2007 (German Version of TRS2006) and I had difficulties too with antialising.

I suggest to try nhancer (http://www.nhancer.com/?language=e) and then it is something of try and error. :)

OT on:
Watching videos with the 8800 GTX is a horror, they are blurred. :'(
With my old ATI-card they were very sharp. Perhaps someone has a trick for me.
OT off

Cheers Swordfish, have tried nhancer, still no luck, thanks anyway.

Collin's... I don't know how much I should ask for it. Take Ebay prices and discount 50 or 100 dollar and I will let it go.

I have a nVidia 8800GTX 768mb, DX9, OpenGL 2.1.
I still use the nVidia drivers that were supplied with the card,
ver. 97.92(6.14.10.9792.)
The system and card run flawlessly in DX or OpenGL.
I updated to 163.71 and this caused display problems, I did not get as far as trying Trainz before reverting to the original driver.
I also use the older "Nvidia control panel " ver. 1.3.6.20. Which gives access to the antialiasing and anisotropic controls. The graphic display on this system is pin sharp.
Have you tried using Nvidia nTune on your system?

Thanks for info Dave, Have tried all the settings in nvidia control panel, nothing works to fix the antialiasing, will have to resort to a 7950GT and try that.
Trainz is terrible if the antialiasing is not working.

Cheers anyway,

Colin.

Just for info, the nVidia site keeps an archive of older drivers.

It's quite possible for you to download the 94 series driver and install it.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
The latest driver's available if you don't like the old one.

I've a 6600 GT card and to run some of my programs I have to keep with the 94 series driver - otherwise the program crashes on exit (not Trainz).

HTH

What setting are you using for Trainz. In my Nvidia control panel version 1.5.30.10 for the 8800 GT, there is a program setting option for Trainz 2004. In there the various anisotropic settings as well as antialiasing can be set, plus many more. The choices are: "Use global setting" or different specific settings. Since there are many possible combinations, what would be a good start for these settings?
anisotropic filtering
antialiasing - gamma correction
antialiasing - mode
antialiasing - setting
antialiasing - transparency
conformant texture clamp
error reporting
extension limit
force mipmaps
stereo - display mode
texture filtering - anisotropic sample optimization
texture filtering - legative LOD bias
texture filtering - quality
texture filtering - trilinear optimization
threaded optimization
triple buffering
vertical sync

I have tried altering all these settings with different combinations, nothing works with 2004, the graphic display is terrible, the 8800GTX works fine with TRS2006 though.

This is definately a driver issue (I think  ) . I had this same issue in FS2004 on an 7800GS where I lost my antialiasing. I rolled back my video drivers and everything corrected itself. I don't know what the heck is going on at nVidia but they seemed to have tried and fix something and made it worse  ("sound" familiar). :hehe:

LouP
