That's right everyone, 4501's alive again! She'll be under steam the first time during Railfest, September 6th-7th at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.

WOW!!! That's good to hear!! I wonder if she'll be part of the NS 21st Century Steam Program. Even though I don't live anywhere in that region, I still find 4501 a very interesting locomotive.

UPDATE FOR RAILFEST 8/28/2014

Not only will 4501 be up and running, but Southern 630 will also be up and running, taking turns with 4501 and visiting Southern FP7 #6133 from the North Carolina Transportation Museum in pulling the Missionary Ridge Local. Plus, representatives from Norfolk Southern, Operation Lifesaver and Trains Magazine will be there. Also, Jessi Krebs, from the Chippewa Northwestern Railway Society will also be operating a 1/12th scale model of Southern 4501, called 'Little 4501'.

Very pretty engine, good to have her back. I'm puzzled how she managed to achieve wheelslip while running light engine?
