2009 query

Received my 2009 DVD yesterday and I'm pleasantly surprised. It runs much smoother than Classics on my set up.

I have a few queries: I have my language set to English but foreign language windows and instructions pop up from time to time. eg in the Queensland route, when it loads, a message in French comes up. Others have German messages. Why is this?

Also in the Queensland route somewhere it said be sure to try the Sunlander scenario, but there isn't one, or not that I can see anyway.

Can I turn off the train shadows? In some situations only the loco has a shadow, not the carriages, which looks odd, and since nothing else has shadows (buildings, posts etc) the train shadows look a bit odd anyway.

There seem to be several issues with the language pack. I ran the Amtrak route today and it was all in Italian or something. The problem was in the Beta version so Auran knows about it.

Yes the shadows are strange. In the Amtrak route (again) the loco shadow is half a loco height, but the passenger car shadows are four times as long. Also on my m/c, the power lines (not the poles) are always in the foreground.
Hopefully SP1 will address these issues.

BTW. I think there's a special section for 2009 problems.

You can turn off shadows.

From the Start panel select Options -> Advanced Options. Uncheck the Shadows tick box. In my experience this also improves performance slighlty.

I think SP1 will take care of the localization issues (language). Tis a bit of a pain figuring out what the scenario wants you to do when it's in a language you can't make heads or tails of.

I installed TRS2009 from DVD and installed SP1. It runs ok

However I have with language as many of the descriptions and instructions that pop up are in foreign language Why is this?

I read some of the threads but I can not see how to fix this problem

Any suggestions thanks

It's a known problem with no solution at present. It might be fixed in a later service pack.
