1950/60s branchline engine facilities

Davie_UCF

Here since 2001, Trainz!!
Wondering if anyone had any advice or trackplans of any branchline enginefacilities, like coaching sidings or sheds and the like?

Its for a fictional route, just trying to get things as realistic as they could be!

Thanks :)

Hello

These links contain a few track plans that might help.

http://www.martin.loader.btinternet.co.uk/Fairford.htm

http://www.greatwestern.org.uk/index.htm

Looking through them and also in some of my reference books, it is surprising how few branch lines had any loco facilities at all by the 1930's. for example, all the Midland Railway branchlines in mid-Gloucestershire were served by locos based at Gloucester Horton Road shed. The working timetables all start and end with a loco movement to or from Horton Road.

Nailsworth had a turntable and some carriages appear to have been stabled over night on the branch but no locos.

Hope this helps
Regards
Chris

ps
There used to a thread, possibly started by John Whelan that had lots of useful links and information sources about British Railways but I can't find it any more.

Even though its a 50/60s route I want some sort of engine facilities because the short mainline I have doesnt have any yet.. and I like the idea of a small engine stabling and stock storage place on the branch, instead of now having to build a bigish mainline style one :)

I'll check out the links, thanks!
Sucks about the thread, sounds really interesting

Hello again

My first post might have misled you a bit. I have now had time to dig out "Great Western Branch Line Termini" by Paul Karau. Unlike the Midland Railway, most of the GWR termini had a loco shed (on a spur with a reverse siding) and some such as Watlington and Princetown also had a carriage shed. The carriage sheds are generally either on a siding directly off the running line or on an extension of the running line (beyond the platforms).

The book is very well laid out and tells you all you would need to know to model a range of different branch lines termini. It is out of print but you should be able to pick up a second hand copy for between £10 and £15. I found plenty on Amazon.

Regards
Chris

Thanks for the help, I might pursue the book when i'm next doing some Amazon shopping, I do like books with plans and infomation.

I've put a sidng off my headshunt at the terminus that can fit some coaches, the rest will be stored in the station platform, seems good to me :)

I'll post a screenie later maybe
