Surveyor 2.0 is far better than Classic for manipulation of objects. It can be very precise. The yellow/green outline is useful, however the problem with it is that the border is too big (thick) in my opinion. A thinner border would be better.
PLP, try making the canopies as splines. That way you can curve them and set the gradients. That's what I have done on my route.

You only need to change the entry for defaultjunction. Change the kuid number for the kuid you want.

In S2.0 apply the gradient to the spline endpoint.
If you apply it to the spline itself then the gradient would be as per your example 1.6 in the middle with 1.61 on one end point and 1.59 on the other endpoint. At least that is what I get.
