    Steam Loco Wheel Size

Why is it that the primary driving wheels on more recent steam locomotives were so large? And why do diesel and straight electric locomotives usually lack large wheel sizes? Any answers would be highly appreciated.

    Future Electrification in Chicago Area?

I have a broad question, but, is it possible that in the far future that Metra may launch an electrification program on all its routes in the Chicago area? I've heard claims that widespread electrification may occur again due to "new methods".

    Different Ballast Types?

I've noticed that different lines, especially from satellite view, seem to be supported by ballast of varying shades of gray to a chalky white. For example, take a look at this location: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=41.968076&lon=-88.2370645&z=19&l=0&m=b I've noticed that lighter lines tend to have...

    Providence, RI-Seekonk River Lift Bridge

For those who don't know much about this urban relic: http://www.artinruins.com/arch/?id=decay&pr=seekonkbridge I sure do love this bridge, as well as the East Side Railroad Tunnel. I hope they never eliminate either, as they are such interesting artifacts of Providence rail history, and the...

    High Speed Rail 2050 Question

A question regarding America's future high speed rail corridors: Will select existing lines be upgraded to accommodate high speed traffic, or will whole new routes be constructed?

    Pre-Made Maps (No Track)?

So I've been wondering this for a long time, but, does anyone offer any pre-made maps for Trainz in which the terrain and textures are in place (and perhaps even roads and buildings), but tracks are not? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Farecoal

    The John Bull in Trainz

So I searched the DLS for a John Bull model, and was unfortunately unable to find one. Does anyone know if a John Bull model for Trainz exists? Just a refresher to those who have forgotten, this is the locomotive I am talking about:

    Rare & Unusual Catches

Don't know if a screenshot thread like this has already been posted, but thought I'd go ahead anyway. Post screenshots depicting what in real life would be rare or unusual catches on whatever route you picture. Or they can be of an absurd nature (like a US manifest freight on a UK line haha)...

    Truly Private Lines

I have always wondered: throughout railroad history, have there ever been lines (most likely spurs) that were under completely private ownership by one individual? I would find it amusing if some millionare some time in the past had a spur constructed to his mansion for whatever reason haha.

    An Idea.....

I don't know if this has been done yet, but how about making a model for Trainz that features something like seen in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHelulhKe08 Can it be pulled off?

Name of the Municipal Transit City in TS12

What do you think a good name for the Municipal Transit City in Trainz 2012 would be? I'm not sure what to call it haha.

What's your favorite part of railroading/trains?

As the title says, I was wondering what everybody's favorite part of railroads are. I know some people might like the railroads themselves, or going out to actually watch trains. Personally, my favorite part is getting into the nitty-gritty details and inner workings of locomotives, especially...

Are there any generic, loadable coaches?

As the title says, does anybody know of any generic coaches with no names on them? I never feels right having a PRR loco pull CN coaches, and this wouyld help greatly.
