Railworks 3 to be released in september

Sorry, i didn`t read that. OK, if it's an update, it seems to be a big one, and it seems to be free for owners of Railworks 2. Didn`t have to pay for the update from Railworks to Railworks 2 either. Yet i had to pay for the update of Trainz 2009 to 2010, and for the update of Trainz 2010 to TS 12.

So they took N3V title

And added a little fluff from Railworks 2

and called it railworks 3, still looks like failure to me. Nothing really new included that trainz doesnt have.

Titles:

N3V: Trainz Simulator 12

RSC: Train Simulator 2012

As i said, it`s free for owners of Railworks 2, that`s always welcome.

BTW, how would you call a train simulator created on 2011, Ballast Simulator 1995 or something like that?

I copypaste here some text from this http://www.railsimulator.com/microsite_ts2012/assets_microsite/faq.pdf

-Multiple-source dynamic lightning: allows streetlights & headlights to illuminate the ground and nearby objects
-Extended terrain draw distance and terrain shadows
-Multiple-headed consists to allow consists to be powered by different types of traction
-Particle effects on locomotive windows -e.g. rain drops
-Working vipers which clear away rain drops
-Improved skies with stars and moving clouds
-Water with depth and reflections of nearby objects and terrain
-Depth of field can be switched on to give a camera focus effect
-Soft shadows mimic real daylight shadows
-Consist speed limits realistically enforced
-Improved track unevenness and cab camera movement increasing with speed
-Smoothing of vertical curves on tracks
-New, user interface and loading screens
-Superelevation creates accurate simulation of curved tracks

And Hert, does trainz really have all of these?

Gentle correction, Kuju are no longer involved - they passed the reins to RSC some time ago.

The name is an odd choice given it is very similar to the latest N3V product, but as a fan of all the train sims it is nice to see the genre expanding and improving.

Features such as elevation and the reintroduction of cab sway (hopefully a bit better than the original hunting effect in Rail Simulator) are particularly welcome.

The proof as always will be in the sampling and having spent around £30 on buying TS12 (Trainz one) to be rather disappointed, at least this upgrade is free.

Anyone noticed this?

RW "To build the Railway of their dreams"

N3V "Build and Operate the Railroad of Your Dreams"

Hmmm, not sure N3V will be too happy with that. looks like possible plagiarism to me?

No Multiplayer in RW2 either according to that pdf.

What's the problem with you folks? I'm a railfan, and i enjoy any rail sim out there, MSTS, Trainz or Railworks, SUZI, Subway Simulator or BVE.
You must be really frustrated with the only train sim that full fills your life, hammering against all other train sims because of ....who knows why.... not enough patches to solve problems... or such an outdated game engine surpassed by all other sims...

Yea, maybe so many close-minded people in here? no idea...

I added number for clarity. Bolded ones we have (explained below).
#2: TS10 & 12 "extended" the draw distance. however just saying you "extended it" doesn't say much, they could have added an extra foot of draw distance for all we know.
#3: If I'm reading this right, it's saying you can have multipul engines pulling a train. We have been able to do this since day 1.
#6: Again "Improved Skies" doesn't say much. However we have had moving clouds since day 1 as well.
#7: we have water with depth, just lacking the reflections.
#9: Shadows in TRS are primarily done by the modeler (and now by others with PEV's QuickShadows) they vary from object to object, but overall I'd say are pretty realisitc.
#12: I'm not entirely sure what this means. It either means that you cannot surpass the speed limit (which is unrealistic, and would detract from their claim of being the most realistic) or they are sayin AI doesn't. Which Trainz has.
#13: new GUI, whoopee, our TS12 has a new GUI.
#14: can be done in Trainz, there are a couple different Superelevated track sets out there & banking consists rules as well.

so more 50% we have in TRS, many having been in for for ages. I'm not really impressed.
I'd also point out that the screenshots aren't that impressive either in my opinion. The track looks similar to old UTC-era track, the buildings look very 'flat', Engines & Rolling stock look on-par with what we have currently; if not somewhat dumbed-down, I've never been a fan of the RW/S trees. I'd list more, if there were more screenshots. Overall based off the pictures on their site, I would say they are about on par with Trainz 2009.

Edit: I'd like to add that our Surveyor is generally considered to be easier to use then RW/S, and our AI is a more in-depth system. RSC did mention in the FAQ that they've made improvements to their route builder, but I still don't think it will be up to par with N3V's. Oh also Custom content, there is way more great custom 3rd part content for TRS then there ever will be for RW/S because you basically end up having to hack the game (so I'm told, never tried it). Oh & most of ours is (technically) free.

Well, i think that "To build the Railroad of your Nightmares" wouldn't be a bestseller... if it's about trains it has to be called Train xxxxxx sim yyyyy for zzzzzz and qqqqq

I dont see in the update notes that they are implementing a easy to use surveyor mode. Like we have in Trainz. And it doesnt look like the AI is getting a revamp, which since TC3 we have had better and smarter AI drivers. And they cant just call it Railworks 3? Looks very suspicious to me.

Just my thoughts,

If I remember correctly the last big up date (railworks 2) broke most of the payware , with most be quoted as a 2 week waiting period while they worked out what was broke .
Maybe they've learnt their lesson and everything may work correctly out the box . Only time will tell .

It's not worth getting flustered over with us though NV3 needs to keep improving what we have and not get too complacent over the recent peak in sales that swamped the servers .

As for the "this is a free upgrade and we have to pay for new trainz editions" just remember that most of the railworks content is payware controlled by RSC via steam who no doubt take a cut out of each sale which is then used to fund their new versions .

You are right, and i agree with that, but that's the way each rail sim works. On the other hand, N3V is going that way too, payware rolling stock.

Well, I read the PDF, again they mention an improvement to a scenario editor that doesn't need to be "improved" or "further enhanced", it needs to go back in the garbage dump it came from and be replaced with a real editor. And the AI dispatcher still needs to be replaced by a psychotic chimpanzee with a bayonet who randomly stabs things, the chimp would do a better job.

And of course still not a word about unfixing the "fix" from patch mark 1 over three years ago that locks every single switch on every AI trains' path from the very beginning of the scenario against player changes. The AI isn't due thru here for 4 hours, but you can't throw this switch because it's not scripted that way.

I can't see any problems with "us folks", but you do seem to be trying hard to wind this thread up in each of your posts. Now why would that be.......?

Huuumm.. We say in Spain "Vender la piel antes de matar al oso", something like "Selling the skin before killing the bear", i don't know if you get it, what i mean is that even before the "THING" is out, it has been killed, so Railworks 3, or Train Simulator 2012, is no good, it's bad, caca, poop.
