Default Broadgauge Routes.

I'm working on a new Broadgauge Layout in Trainz2004, the track isn't a problem except when it comes to crossing rivers etc. Most bridges have a 'fixed' length of Standard track on them, and it would look odd and very unrealistic to join this ith the Broadgauge track.
The method I have used to get over this anomaly, is to use the Disused Bridges that have no fixed track. Lay your bridge as normal, then slide the track over them. Once joined, adjust the height of both bridge and track until it's in the correct posistion. Believe me, it works just fine.

There is at least one non-derelict working bridge on the DLS that does not contain any track so you can lay your own track across it. Try "stone_bridge_single(no_track)" by Mike10 (KUID 35412:28025).

With some/many/most (??) bridges it should be possible to edit the config.txt file to replace the creator supplied track KUID code with a KUID number of your own - although I have not tried this. However, when some-one downloads your route, they will still have the original (standard gauge) track across the bridge.

The derilict bridges are working fine, also, I am having some new bridges built for me by one of our top Payware Creators.

The new route is starting to take shape very nicely now. it's quite an exciting project, having to delve into the very early years of the GWR.

Also, I had a tip passed on to me today, about creating Mixed Gauge track.
If you lay your B.G. track as normal, then place a length of Standard Gauge track alongside it. Elevate your S.G. track, then move it over until it's on top of the B.G. track. Carefully lower the S.G. track onto the B.G. track until only the rails are visible, then, move the S.G. track until only one rail is visable, and Voila! You have 'Mixed Gauge track.
Rather a slow procedure, but it does work, and looks brilliant when done.

"Home Made" mixed gauge track is fine .......until you come to curves and junctions. Do not go there! Believe me, it's more trouble than it's worth.
I'll wait until someone can make a mixed gauge track properly, the trouble is, I don't think it would have too many people downloading it, as I seem to be the only person working with Broadgauge Trainz? Or am I?

I am also looking for a dual gauge track spline but I have the added problem of finding/creating track as designed by Brunel. He used track with a wide base and cross ties every 2 or 3 feet. No sleepers. I have pictures of track used around 1900,s but I lack the experience to create the track. Is there anyone out there who can send me a tutorial for dummies on track creation.

Paul, your Mixed Gauge track is brilliant. I have layed some this afternoon, and I shall be soon using it to relay the complete layout.
I shall use the double goods shed from the DLS as a Transfer Station and now with the mixed gauge track I can run trains of both gauges.

This will give a lot more scope to things. Thank You.

Remember Sandie, if you are modelling around 1892, then use part of the converted track too !! (4=Dual gauge, 5=converted to SG)

MikeBR thanks for your order, you sould use track 1 (for 1860) and will now be able to bash on and get that BG route laid, and celebrate the 200th Aniv of Brunels work

Thanks Paul. I've set my BG layout to 1890 or thereabouts using a little bit of 'Modellers Licence'.

Many thanks for the interesting info you have sent me. That Plym Valley/Lanceston Line is very special to me for personal reasons. I couldn't believe it when I noticed the line to which those articles referred. An amazing coincidence!

Think they are talking about a different broad gauge (7ft or there abouts).
You are in luck though, I just uploaded my own broad gauge (5ft3in, Irish/VR/SAR) track that matches the Auran dusty track.
You'll find it under my username (S301) or author ID (103475).

If you're looking for Broad Gauge track on the DLS, I made some in Brunel's 7ft 0¼in gauge.

I think that Paulz Trainz is on to another winner with his B.G. and Mixed Gauge track, it will really bring a completly new dimension to the Trainz experience.

Hi Paul, yes the holidays are well and truly behind us now, and you asked me how my B.G. Route is progressing. Well, I'm ashamed to say it, but I haven't done a lot with it for the past two weeks or so, (I'm rather afraid that Restormel Castle has taken precedence) shame on me......!

However, I will certainly make an effort to do some work on it this Month, first job is to completely relay all the track using your mixed gauge track.
I will keep you posted as to how I'm getting on. Thanks for your interest. I appreciate it.
