Turn off engine

I am trying to make a train start up and shut down.

I have added a start.wav and stop.wav file to the engine sound folder.
I was looking though the keyboard.txt file, when the found the lines:

train_cabin_engine_on alt [
train_cabin_engine_off alt ]

The trains engine starts when the session starts, however when I try to shutdown the engine by pressing alt ] nothing happens. In the Jetlog.txt file I get the following message:

Cabin.UserPressKey> Unhandled key-command train_cabin_engine_off

Any ideas on how to get it to work?

Thanks,
Mark

You won't. In the early days of Trainz you could stop and start locos but, for reasons that I cannot begin to fathom, this facility is no longer available by default.

I am given to understand that one or two payware locos are stoppable/startable - but no freeware items.

From time to time other users have raised the issue of being able to stop and restart locos, but there seems to be little or no widespread enthusiasm amongst users or content creators for this.

Helpful?

Hi does this help. I have found with my borrowed from-a-friend copy of TRS2004 and my own TS2009 that on the driver command I can shut down all locos exept the InterCity 125. I just get the menu up and say a Class 55's engine will completely turn off and emit no sound. I think it may be a rule on edit session but I might have a kuid your missing

I would love to shut down engines not in use. Nothing bothers me more than having an engine in the repair shop running or a bunch in the yard idling.

Hi B9k9kiwi - this seems like a good idea to me, I have been working on some "theories" to make this a reality. It appears no easy feat, but I would say possible. It would help if I knew which early version of TRS had this feature. Could you please advise.
Cheers, Fender :)

What is the objection to idling locos ... is the noise a factor where it disrupts or drowns out your operation of other nearby locos ?

I think it might be UTC. I used MSTNoodle's Thomas models and Mrtrain's USA locos in UTC, and when I started driving, there was a sound like a turbine starting up. If I crashed, eventually the engine would make another whining noise like a turbine shutting down.

Hope this helps!

Trainz starts up all locomotives in the layout at the start of a Driver session. When a train derails, that train's locomotive's engine shuts down. I never new about the Alt-[ and Alt-] keystrokes in Trainz for operating the engine. I might have to give that one a try. :D Thanks!

Regards.

UPDATE: I tried it in TRS2004, in both DCC and Cabin mode, with no go. :'-( I looked in to the keyboard.txt file, and the fields that marky7890 asked about were not in there :o, so I copied and pasted them in to the keyboard.txt file. Tried it once again, and no luck. :'( The JetLog.txt file recorded the keystrokes as unhandled steam_regulator_down, a few others, etc. :hehe:

In my copy of UTC, the fields were also missing from UTC's keyboard.txt, so I added them there also. Tried it out in both DCC and Cabin mode with no luck. :'( UTC did not record anything related to the Driver sessions in the JetLog.txt.  :hehe:

When b9k9kiwi said that you could do it in the early days of Trainz, he must mean that literally--pre-UTC!

I wonder what he mean when he said (emphasis added): "In the early days of Trainz you could stop and start locos but, for reasons that I cannot begin to fathom, this facility is no longer available by default." What did he mean by "by default"?

Thanks and regards.

On the forum there was a thread that referred to a Swedish Loco that had an ignition key.
I have tried to search for it, but cannot find the thread. Eldavo's locos have a shut down and startup proceedure.
I would like to see how the ignition key worked.

This built in driver command:

Locomotive start or shut down command,<kuid2:86105:60577:1>

Might work for some locos (the command signal is an ignition key).

You can stop and or start the motor from RENFE´s 308 model, avaliable at www.spaintrainzrutas.com ;)

I think it's actually quite a good idea to be able to shut down locos. The noise of idling locos can be quite annoying when working around or passing a large stabling yard not to mention not very prototypical.

Has this been mentioned in the suggestions thread at all?

Cab Mode

Make sure that you are in cab mode when you are trying to do this, and also make sure that in session rules you have Start Up/ Shut down command checked

Tried it... The fans shut off but the sound still plays. Someone really should put this in the suggestions fast so auran might put it in for the next Trainz.

Auran can't even get he DLS working ... let alone developing "turning off locomotive" commands.

Besides ... Auran does nothing with asset creation at all ... all the 3rd party creators do all the hard leg work and creating for Auran, and donate their creations to Auran ... creating all the assets for free, and giving them away for free to Auran ... thats the real ironic beauty of it ... Auran does nothing ... and rakes in the money, while everyone else does all the hard work for them.

Don't hold your breath, waiting, and expecting the next vrsion of Trainz to be released.
