Wont Work -- Help!!

Got this product for Christmas but it does not work at all. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of times. :'(

It appears that none of the database objects are being read. In the Content Manager, basically all objects are listed as "Faulty."

Running on Win. 7 64 bit.

Welcome to the forums and to Trainz.

We'll see what we can do to help you get up and running.

First try installing and running the program as administrator. This will solve a host of problems.

In Content Manager highlight the faulty content and view the error and warnings. Right-click on the assets and choose View Errors and warnings.

What this will do is do a database refresh, and many of the errors will disappear. These are false errrors. Any warnings you can ignore as they are just that warnings, and will not impact the performance of the program. Besides fixing a warning can sometimes lead to errors later.

You might have to do this a few times to clear up the problem.

Hope this helps.

re-install

Mine did the same thing, i had to turn off my anti-virus and firewall, that seemed to help out.

Screen Shot

Here is a screenshot of the problem I'm having. This is what I see when I try to run a scenario or do a quick run:

Is Content Manager still showing a whole load of items as faulty? If so, try an "Extended Database Repair" (under "File" menu in CM) - leave it to run for a good few hours.

Or, if you only have the content that came with the game, you could try selecting all the faulty items and Reverting them to Original.

You mention "scenario's", if you do mean scenario's, these were written for an earlier version and the scripting won't run in 2010.

If you just mean "sessions" (yep, confusing) these should run but there can be many errors or missing files (parts of parts, eg just say a whistle sound file) that will stop it running properly. Just because it's appears in the route list isn't any guarantee that you have everything installed to enable it to run (difficult to fathom, it's just the way it is, as lots of older items are still included but may not run. Auran do not vet uploaded routes, vehicles etc to see whether they work, and most content has not been made by Auran.

On your list of routes toggle the gold star at the top to see all routes rather than just "favourites" and try some others.

Try switching from "DirectX" to "Open GL" in the options/display settings from the opening menu.

Check that your screen resolution setting ( in the same menu) is set to the one your computer is running.

Are your video drivers fully up to date? What are your machine specs, particularly the video card?

Welcome to the forums, and the very addictive Xmas pressie !!!

Yes I think an Extended Database Repair is in order. Then try some of the other routes, as your screenshot show, at least you are into Trainz.

What is the build number on the start screen ? You may need to apply some patches to get to the current vesion.

Same problem

Mine won't run either. I click on the icon, and the windaw asks if it's ok to run Auran Trainz. I click "yes" but then nothing happens. Almost like a DLL is missing. I have reinstalled it, run it as Administrator on my Win7, Dual core Pentium4, 3Ghz, 2Gb Ram, Win7 Ultimate 32-bit machine with 689 GB free on the HD, and sporting a ATI Radeon HD 4300 video. Nada, zip, nothing happens. Mine is Engineer' Edition on 2 discs -- gift from wife.

Hi Butchc,

Welcome to your latest reason for living.;)
Not sure but I suspect 2G of RAM is not enough with WIN7.
Not to worry though. It is nothing a new high end computer won't fix.

Argh. Tried everything. Did the database rebuild. Still it is not displaying any objects -- textures, trains, tracks, etc. Not working at all.

.....Tried everything. Did the database rebuild. Still it is not displaying any objects.....

Your screenshot indicates that there is a problem with the QuickDrive rule, I would have thought an EDR or Revert would have fixed that. Presuming you are still getting the same message give this a try:

In Content Manager select the "Installed" tab and type "QuickDrive" into the search box - see if the returned built in asset is showing any problems like a red '!' mark. If it is then right click and select "Edit" > "Open for Edit" and then right click again and "Edit" > "Revert to Original".

You could also try starting Trainz, creating a new route and placing some track etc. and see if that works.

Not 100% certain about Win7 but I don't think you should be getting that "OK to run" Window up. I'm suspicious that it is a Windows Admin permissions issue. You could try running the .exe file direct from the install location (try right clicking on it and select "Run as Administrator") and see if that works.

Thanks. Tried "Run as Administrator." Still no dice. Wits end.

My post about Admin was in reply to butchc who came in on the thread with a similar problem, just to confuse things...:D .

Did you try these suggestions:

Mine won't run either.

I'm curious how it's been installed at least twice, and yet there's no indication by your name that you have a registered copy of 2010. Now, don't get excited, I'm just saying that perhaps the game is not opening because it is waiting for validation, I'm not accusing you of anything. Good luck getting it going. I'm assuming of course, that you are internet enabled.

To my understanding the idea behind "Run as Administrator" is for the installation of the program. Once the disk/download starts to work and you are asked if you wish to install the program you answer NO and leave the auto installer alone. You then locate the disk and the installer program on it, right click on the program and select "Run as Administrator" this will then install the program with Administrator rights and should work correctly. You should never be asked when trying to launch the program if you wish to continue or whatever that little pop-up window says. I have not had a problem with this when I installed it this way.

I think the same as itereus on this one. There is a problem with the command somewhere. I would also be interested to know if you are having problems with any other parts of Trainz, with another route, or even if you try to create a "dummy " route as suggested above. If these parts work then it is an indication that the program is working and the problem is a fault in a command or something.

BTW, I am running 2010 on Windows 7 Pro, 64bit with 4GB RAM.

I registered it. Got it for Christmas from my dear old mum, BTW, and unless she's a very sophisticated cracker with access to original packaging, I'm pretty sure my copy is legit :p

Yep -- no route I've tried works, and it won't let me lay track or place any objects -- seems like there is some problem with how it's calling the database objects. I'll try the other Install as Admin suggestion....

BTW my graphics hardware is an ATI Radeon 1600. Somewhat older chipset, but I'm assuming it's ok. (Runs Microsoft Fight Simulator X ok for example).
