Which patches for GamersGate version?

Just bought and installed 'Trainz 2010 EE' from GamersGate and see no patches for my build which is 43361. The latest build is 43437 and there is also a hotfix for that too so how do I get to the latest version when none of the patches list my build? Or are those patches for a different version and I do have the latest version?

Another thing, when purchasing from GG there is no mention of DRM used and online requirements. The game developers need to make sure what kind of DRM
comes with the game is listed at these DD sites because normally I do not buy games that force me to be online to play them.

BTW, the animated icons showing in the in-game browser is causing really bad keyboard lag when typing.

Confusing to say the least. Under announcements it only shows SP1 for EE version and yet in the game down at the bottom left it is showing SP2 and SP3 available for TS2010:EE but when I click on those it takes me to patches for TS2010 and not the EE version. My build is higher than SP1 for EE that is listed in announcements so what is up with that?

I believe from what I pick up in the forums, that you would have to get any available updates from whomever you purchased the game. In your case this would be from Gamersgate. I only once purchased a version from a supplier other than Auran. Never again.

If you had purchased from Auran directly you would not be required to be online in order to play. Gamersgate must have added something if that is the case.

OK, thanks, there are no patches available for the GG version. Some DD games you can aply standard patches and others you can't.

The game is running TADDaemon.exe in the background and is some kind of DRM server that Auran put there for CP and not GG. It also installed a service. I only noticed that because my Online Armor firewall alerted me to it during the install process and is also how I know about the TADDeamon.exe connecting out during the game running. I've complained to GG before about not listing DRM in games and it seems they didn't take notice. Steam always lists DRM used after getting many complaints about not doing so. It's no big deal because I got Trainz 2010:EE for 60% off the regular price which is much cheaper than the Auran price.

It looks from my profile like I am new to Trainz but that is because this is a new account, I also own the original Trainz and TRS2004.

I'm sure I've heard that build number before - yes, I have, there have been similar goings-on involving Amazon as well (build 43361 is well-known for being the same build number that Steam/Valve use for their version - which means you are not going to be able to update in the near future (anyway, that version contains most of SP3 anyway, according to various posts)

Another reason to be wary of buying downloadable versions from anywhere other than Auran/N3V direct.

Yes, I am aware that TADDaemon.exe is running in the background doing whatever it was designed to do. However, if you are required to be online for the program to work, I would guess TADDaemon is not the reason. The only function I lose with no internet connection is the ability to download assets. Everything else works fine when offline.

Hi All
I will make another post on this tomorrow morning. However, I did pass on this to the team, so that they can look into the possibility of patches for it if needed (it's possible it may already include SP3/a version of the hotfix). As above, I will make another post on this tomorrow when I'm working.

Thank you

I'm as anti-DRM as they come and will not buy DRMed products. Unless GG modified their version, TADDaemon has nothing to do with DRM; it's Trainz' database manager. I run Trainz offline with no problem - in fact, I recommend it for security and especially performance reasons.

OK, just ran it offline and it ran fine so I was wrong about what that file is for.
But it did install a LicCtrl Service which is running all the time and is for DRM. Does the Auran version have that?

I have a racing sim that installed a service too called Leverage Service and I disable it and enable it when I run the game so will probably do the same for Trainz 2010 with the LicCtrl Service.

No DRM whatsoever on the Auran Version, unfortunately alternative suppliers seem to add their own junk to what they supply. Quite likely it's a DRM that Gamers Gate use on all their disks as standard.

On checking, see here http://www.sonydadc.com/opencms/opencms/sites/eu/files/Press_Releases/news_0051.html

Different games at GG use different DRM, all require a serial number and online activation and some have come with limited activations. That LicCtrl service is something new that came with Trainz 2010:EE though. I've been a member at GG for years and would have noticed it before if it was part of GG standard DRM.

At least I know not to buy anything from GamersGate. Thanks for the head's up clam!

And, for those who are wondering, the Auran version does not include any kind of DRM scheme.

I am awaiting eagerly a solution to the problem. Since I also got my version from Gamersgate which I would never have bought if I knew beforehand this is an issue now
