Invisible track

Can anyone please recommend a DLS track which is truly invisible in Surveyor?

I'm looking for anything that won't show in Alt 'fly' for taking screenshots.

Thanks in anticipation.

There's one that comes built in with TRS2006 Called "invisible track"
i don't know if it can be use for 09.

I can't see how an invisible track could be invisible in Surveyor - something has to be there surely to see where it is! Invisible means visible in Surveyor only, but not in Driver.

Ray (also TRS2004)

Hello Ray,
Yes, I take your point. But I'm sure I've got something on my route which has the splines, but no visible coloured "track". I could see and grab (and insert) spline points and move them as with any spline, Can I find it? !!!!
It may have been an invisible road, but I'm convinced there's something available.

Just use CTR-Fly in Driver. That is when your invisible track will be invisible.
Peter

Hello Peter,

That got me all excited, but I can't do that in '04. Can you in other versions?

I've just tried again, to be absolutely sure, and as soon as I hit Alt F, up pops the 'Find object' box. For me, Alt 'fly' is a Surveyor only option.

Sorry to be so fussy, but using the free roaming, or worse, fixed/tracking camera settings in Driver, whilst absolutely great when running trains, is simply no match for the Alt 'fly' option when it comes to screenshots. It has so much more control, is softer and slower moving, allows fantastic angles and all round makes for much better pictures.

I'll try something else, unless anyone else comes up with an answer.

Cheers both.

TS2010 is the same, I was going to suggest Free Roaming but you've tried that.

You've got your feet wet with making content, make a 'too small to see' or a 100 metres underground object in Gmax and use it to make a spline. You could always use a conventional spline and lower the vertices, you will still see the circles so what do you gain?

Peter

Peter,

The circles and almost all other markers disappear in Surveyor when Alt 'fly' is used. (Tracking and fixed cameras strangely, don't).

I'd already tried lowering the spline below ground level, but that of course takes the track object fixed to it down as well. What I'm trying to do is get some items which (to me) are supposed to look like drains, set between the rails. Currently they set to the side of the track (as in my screenshot here http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=53532 post #4 near the dogs). I want them in the centre, so I need the invisible track to place them precisely.

GMax!! I still cannot get the files into Trainz. I may try again after therapy!!
I'm pretty sure it's not me - it's my PC, which is still infected with Vista!

Cheers

Hi Casper

Like you I use TRS2004 - and no other version. I've just checked on what I thought I had always done (it becomes almost automatic after a time!) and in this version it's Alt + Fly or Alt + Walk, and Ctrl + C to exit from them.

As for getting GMax content into TRAINZ - are you using TACS (TRAINZ Asset Creation Studio) rather than GMax on it's own? If so, once you've saved your creation, use 'Export' to place an .im file of the object in the same folder. And don't forget to use Resource Collector to make sure all the texture files are there too.

The folder for the item can be saved anywhere you like - I have used a 'Work in Progress' location temporarily until I'm satisfied that it's ready for testing - but to use in TRAINZ it needs to be in your World/Custom/etc folder -'etc' being scenery, trains, whatever is appropriate.

My apologies if you already know all this but I'm trying to be helpful.

~ as posted ~

Good morning Ray.

 Yawn, you were up early!

Thanks for the GMax advice. I'll look at whether your suggestions have already been covered by the many helpful people in my lengthy thread about the Italian water crane http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=51825 I've not had the incentive to try for a few weeks. If/when I work up the mental energy I'll double check your suggestions.

I've noticed that the fly/walk options will remove the floating tags above any assets, regardless of which flyout you have open. For example if you go into it from rolling stock, the red/green floating arrows will be removed. From Splines flyout, the circles disappear etc. All happily return when you go back to Surveyor proper. A neat trick, and really useful.

Yes, it looks like we have identical versions of TRS2004. I'm sure you know about all of the other treats that are in there for automatic scenery creation, in-car view driving, smiting and any other Easter Eggs which I possibly haven't mentioned. BTW you can also just use a single key stroke - 'Esc' - to get back to Surveyor from any of these, although smite may well leave a trail of destruction; I've never tried it on a precious route!

Also, thanks for highlighting the fact that I've clearly got my 'Alt' & 'Ctrl' commands confused. Several senior moments I'm afraid! I'd better go back and edit my earlier posts to avoid confusing others regarding the commands.

Cheers

Back to the original question - Weevil's Kuid:9000:38001 is totally invisible in Surveyor apart from the spline vertexes, but ya gotta have those! It is probably the same 'Invisible Track' mentioned by Calrail way back in Post #2, but it works in TRS04....

Thanks again Andy. I've downloaded and it's working perfectly - exactly what I wanted! The spline point circles disappear in Surveyor Alt 'fly' - and no visible track!
