SP2 For TRS 2009 Wont run

Well after downloading nearly 400mb this is what I get!!!

File error while reading patch data.
No valid patch operation was specified. Patching aborted.

Even after all these years, they still cant get it right!!!! Im not impressed

Strangely, the patch for 38599 to 40040 is some 408 Mb.

Maybe you're missing a few bytes?

Download helper may help you get it all.

This is a large download. If your connection dropped a packet during the transfer, you wind up with a corrupted file.

This is the most common problem with file read errors on large files.

You may have to go through downloading it again. Do it during the night when traffic in your part of the world is light.

As for installing the patch, for some reason it took forever for mine to install it. It would advance maybe one bar every ten minutes. This might be due to the security software I have running in the background. I let it run overnight and everything worked perfectly, albeit slowly.

You are by no means alone. See here:

However:

I had an old PC lying around so I installed Windows 7 on it then installed TRS2009. Then I immediately patched it with TRS2009 SP2. It took a while to complete (I cut the lawn and then some while it patched).

I copied the whole TRS2009 folder to a DVD, cut and pasted the existing TRS2009 folder on my Trainz PC to a safe location, and copied the contents of the DVD onto the Trainz PC.

It fired up like a fresh installation - checking the PC specs, asking for the DVD key, user name, ... .

On opening CM2 it took an age to update the data base. But this process does work.

This may help http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/ this has saved me a great deal of stress, I can tell you, and it's totally free.
Also make sure you’re using the right update, by checking your build number, it should be in the bottom right corner of your Launch page, check this against the update number, the later you bought your copy of TR2009 the bigger the build number will be.

Finally got SP2 to work

HI All,
Thanks to those who made sensible responses.Your help was appreciated.I finished up using the downloader that Jonathon suggested and got it down without any lost packets. But as Phil said, the patching itself takes forever. Its about time that someone at Auran got their act together and put these SP's onto CD's and then mailed them out.(At members cost) .It would certainly make life a lot easier,as it was in the old days.Ah well,we can only hope.
