Installing TS2009 38017 to 40040

R707

Steam Locomotive Driver
Hi All,

This is very frustrating. I updated from 37625 okay, when I try to update from 38017 to 40040, this is the message I get from the Trainz Patcher:

Ready to install from local patch file.
Current version: 38017.
Target version: 40040.
Checking for available disk space for patching.
Patching from 38017 to 40040.
Unpacking patch file...
Failed to extract the patch archive.
Patching aborted.

I have tried many times. I even uninstalled Trainz, and ran the patch from 37625 to 40040......same result.
The only patch that works is 37625 to 38017.

BTW, the auto patcher fails as well.

Any ideas people please?

Pete

Turn off any thing you have running in the back groud - like virus scan - i had to even shut down net work driver, pribet stuff, camera drivers.

Took me 3 attemps but did it in the end.

Thanks guys,

I have tried safe mode, and safe mode with networking, unless there is something else, I am stumped. Safe mode has nothing running except the very minimum files needed for windows.

Yet I had no trouble patching from 37625 to 38017. Before I did this patch, I did try the patch from 37625 to 40040. This had the same error.

So, the only patch that worked was 37625 to 38017.

Strange thing though, a lot of routes that I click on now say that the map file is corrupt, or something like that, and of course will not open.

My OS is Windows XP Pro 64-bit.

Anybody have any ideas, or maybe you have had the same error.

Pete

For the record:
I went from the original DVD level to 39979 with safe mode, no network.
I then auto updated to 40040.

Could it be a (shudder) flakey hard drive?

It might not hurt to "clean" the registry and then defrag. If the HD is flakey, doing this should reveal it.

I am not saying this is the best idea but it is what I would probably do.

The HDD is brand new. Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB.
The OS was re-installed 2 weeks ago.
Can't get much of a better start than what I have.
The Video card is Gigabyte 4870X2

Still welcoming ideas please? Surely someone must have experienced this.

Pete

Have you got any other versions of Trainz installed on the same computer? I might be wrong but judging by some recent posts on this forum there seems to be a pattern emerging of problems if that is the case.

Hi John,
I have no other versions of Trainz on my computer. I just tried what Zec at the help desk suggested, here copied:

Hi Peter
I would suggest running a program such as CCleaner to clean out your temp folder, as well as a few other temporary files. It appears that the patcher is having trouble with unpacking the files, which will take up a fair bit of room.
Please also try running a checkdisc, to ensure that your hard drive is not having troubles. After this, please try doing a defrag on your hard drives, to ensure that they are not fragmented (this may cause troubles).
And also, please ensure that your video drivers are fully up to date.

John, I have done exactly as suggested, but all to no avail. Still the same error message, as below:

Ready to install from local patch file.
Current version: 37625.
Target version: 40040.
Checking for available disk space for patching.
Patching from 37625 to 40040.

Failed to extract the patch archive.
Patching aborted.

I can patch from 37625 to 38017, but then I run into the same block, so I re-installed TS2009, to allow me to do the complete upgrade.

Welcome to any suggestions, it is frustrating. I am hopefull that Auran may come up with a patch that will work.

Pete

It may not be this but just in case.
Check the file size is as it should be, my first download bombed out on patching, on checking the file size it was somewhat short by a mere couple of KB, second attempt I used a download manager and it arrived intact and worked with no problem.

I have just reinstalled TS2009 on my laptop (earlier correspondence re graphics problems refers).

I get the same problem - the first downloaded patch works okay though it corrupts the asset database which has to be rebuilt. However launching TS2009, get the message new patch available - downloads the file, installer starts then aborts with message as above.

Restart, same thing happens.

I've got TRS2006 (re)installed on the same laptop but no idea why the problem occurs. I may try turning off the AV protection but frankly that is not a good idea when downloading any file, regardless of how trusted the source, being applied directly to your HD.

Can I suggest Auran provide a separate manual download for Patch #2, after sorting why install is falling over of course!

The size of the file 37625 to 40040 is 424,516,268
38017 to 40040 is 420,478,990
37625 to 38017 is 14,811,596
38017 to 39979 is 420,469,928

I use Free Download Manager, as suggested by Auran.

Vern, it is nice almost, to see that there are other people with this problem. I wish it wasn't so.

I have just installed a fresh TS2009....again......and I want to just go straight to the 37625 to 40040 patch. Same problem. I can go from 37625 to 38017, but that just gets me to service pack 1. Been there, done that.

Still looking for an answer. I have submitted this to the helpdesk too. If I get any suggestions, I will let people know here.

Pete

Turning off AV made no difference.

So far as I can see there is no way to manually download patches for beyond 38017.

Solution, please, Auran.

Hi,
have a look at the post "update 38285 for TS2009" in Auran announcements. Could be of some help.
Frank:)
Have done a bit of searching in the cobwebs.
The next step is a manual patch from "http://download.ts2009.com/patch/38285_to_38316.exe"
It should then be auto patching.
Hope this is of some help.

As a further update, tucked away in the Auran announcements (but not on the main patch/download page) is a link to 38017 to 38285 which I have now installed. However TS2009 now no longer wants to download any further updates but at least it's got rid of that annoying message.

On the downside, after installing DHR into TS2009 most of the rolling stock and some of the assets are shown in red i.e. faulty so back to TRS2006 for me...

Thanks Vern, and others,

I have decided to bite the bullet. I may accept one if this does not work!!

I have re-formatted my C drive, and I am now in the process of re-installing Windows XP Pro 64-bit. Oh, what fun;)) I am getting used to this. people say you only need to re-install your software on about a yearly basis. This covers me until the next blue moon, or until the arrival of that elusive Pentium 10.

Still in the process of installing Nero, then I will install TS2009...again. The installation of TS2009 will be about the second program after windows to install.

I have the feeling that something I installed recently has been upsetting my system. Best way is to re-start, yeah, it's boring, but what else have I to do on my two weeks off!!!!

So, I'll sit here and watch the progress of Nero installing, then have a go at TS2009. I plan to install 37625 first. Then I am hoping to jump straight to 40040. That will be fun, just hope it does not deliver that message.

After Ts2009 gets its act into gear, then I might update windows to service pack 2.

If anybody has any ideas to give me, please feel free to do so. Without this community, a lot of people would have a lot less hair. I'll report back anyway.

Pete

38411 already has service pack 1 you don't need it.

Downloading

I've been having trouble downloading contents from the Dowload Station. Everytime I download a new engine it comes up "Missing Dependences"
Is there any way I can get these Dependences
