switch between programs

Hi. I'm new to Trainz and am using 2004. To build my environment i'm working from some photos and from google earth, and as you may imagine i frequently want to switch from the trainz program to these others, but the challenge is that while using the trainz program it won't let me move the cursor off the main monitor where trainz is running, so if i escape from trainz to monkey with my other programs trainz is dropped from view, making it very difficult/tedious to modify both images in synch.

Is there any way to modify the settings of trainz such that it will let me move my cursor beyond it's frame of influence so i can get to my second monitor and affect change in the other programs without having to minimize trainz?

I think that running Trainz: "run in a minimized screen" is not recomended...but you can try it...IDK ?...and you can always set it back to "run in a full screen" if it doesn't work.

i didn't understand the suggestion you made, unless you're meaning to remove the "-fullscreen" line from the "trainzoptions.txt" file in the TRS2004 folder. I tried this, and while it did succeed in creating a smaller frame for the trainz program it still exhibited the same problem--when trainz was selected as the operating program i couldn't navigate my cursor beyond the smaller window it was in.

No...I was talking about: Rgiht click the TRS desktop icon ...and view properties...you can select run in full screen...or run in minimized screen

Thanks--i just tried what you said but it had no effect. Trainz still ran full screen with the same restriction to the cursor. Any other ideas?

Yeah. Actually, sorry if i didn't make it clear before, i'm already running a dual monitor. I can see everything just fine on the second monitor, i just can't access it while Trainz is maximized...

I went back and re-tried what i thought you meant--removing the 'fullscreen' code from the 'trainzoptions.txt" file--while it's not perfect, what i realized is that because the screen is actually smaller that when i ALT+TAB to switch between programs it doesn't minimize Trainz, meaning i can at least still see it--which is a big improvement over it just disapearing off-screen.

Thanks for the assistance. Hopefully this will be helpful to someone else down the line.

Hi,
I often run Trainz in a window, smaller than full screen. I assume you are TS2009? If you are then there is an option in the options tag. I must say that it does run better in full screen mode, but it is very handy when you are editing content, and maybe setting up a session. BTW, I am running XP Pro 64-bit, and it reall y runs smoothly. If you haev a dual core processor, in the session, the AI will use pne core, and leave the other one for you. Not sure what happens in quad core, but I feel it may be good too. I hope that Auran build on the emerging hardware, and take a big opportunity to use the full advantages of a 64-bit processor, and quad core etc...
So, as you have read, give it a try. You can always revert back to the default.

Pete

It may sound crazy. But when I need two things, trainz and another photo or reference program, I just put my laptop in the same table and play with both. :p
