Can't delete a file? Try Delete Doctor =)

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know of a useful freeware program called Delete Dr. by Kevin Solway. I recommended his plain backup before (and use it to back up my trainz files because it will only update changed files =) ). I was having a problem deleting a .tif in windows...I guess windows can't delete files with previews or something but anyhow, I downloaded this and presto, the file I could not delete was gone (delete file via DOS short name option). :)

You can get this program and plain backup at:

Hi Gisa mate!:)

Sometimes these files are in use by another program and deleting them could corrupt/damage that program or other data on your computer.

Restarting the computer should allow you to delete the file(s).

Good Day Captain Collins! How's it going? :)

You are correct, but I logged off (I use win2k) and closed everything and still it would not let me delete the file (a .tif). Naturally, these .tif's were 500 megs in size (scanned documents) so I really wanted to delete the data. I can try that again next time, but it is not the first time something like that has happened to me.

There is also an option in the program which allows you to delete upon restart. I'll go with that next time just to be safe.

I really gotta give credit to Kevin Solway. These two programs are indispensible. Especially the plain backup. Good luck trying to use win 2k to backup 15-20 gigs of downloaded content. :| I also use it to back up my mp3's as well. :)

It does actually sound like a useful program, really! Thanks for the info!

P.S. What do you think of the new username?

Indeed it is. Just be careful and take your time doing it (not late at night when the mind is not functioning at 100% if you are a normal person [unlike me - I think best when it is late]). Preferably, back up your stuff the old way and then overwrite it using that program. After you back it up, the next time you back it up with new content will be much faster.

I like your username more...suits you better. ;) I too used to watch Star Trek a lot as a child (my mom loved it - a tv dinner programme we enjoy a lot). I wanted to ask you...what does section 31 mean? ^^

Ah I see. :) I don't have a TV over here, although if I get free time in a few years, I might watch episodes from the shows again.

Hello All
I use a program called Unlocker Assistant. This program will tell you what other program has the file locked and you can then decide whether or not to unlock the file.

Regards

Phil

Hi Phil,

I'll have to try this out too next time. I'd love to know why I couldn't delete the .tif's in my case. When I selected two of them, I could delete one. I think it has to do with the preview ability, but I'm no expert.

Thanks for letting us know about this program. :)

Thanks for sharing this. I've had a file on my desktop for almost a year that couldn't be moved or deleted. The unlocker got rid of this parasite pronto!
