I'm gonna vent here

It makes me FURIOUS to see and here about people uploading content without the permission of the creator. Its disrespectful. Its people that do this stuff that ruins it for people who actually ask for permission. I heard of a few people reskinning Non-reskinable content and releading it when they obviously didn't have permission to do so. In my opinion, the people who do this should be banned from the forums and dls. I heard someone saying that "_______" (I won't mention any names) reskinned a non-reskinable loco and the one who mentioned this laughed about it.
The reason why this angers me is because I like to reskin. Its my new hobby and I do it with a sence of pride and respect. And I don't wanna see these privileges taken away. And I'm almost to the point to where if his site disappears, I'm pulling my skins from tpr. I'm not saying my skins are the greatest because I know they are not. It tells me, that if Frank takes this down that he obviously don't want people have access to his work, and if my skins are still out there then his meshes are still out there for people to abuse. And by abuse I mean for those who are careless.
I don't wanna see what I said here come true. I really enjoy the challenge of reskinning Frank's locos and try my best to make them looks as authenitc as I possibly can.
I'm sorry if this offends anyone.

I agree 100% with you on this one. I also see as reskinning, and above all, reeasing the reskin, as very rude and disrespectful.

I also get extremely angered at incorrect spelling and grammar, except when a Speel Chucker is involved.

And BTW, what is FERRIOUS?

Sorry. I was typing to fast and missed that.

I must also agree 100% with Wyonete. If you wish to modify someone elses work whether it' a reskin, route or anything else created by a third party it is only courteous and proper to obtain the creator's permission, unless it is for your own personal use.

If its been uploaded to the DLS without permission then N3V will remove it on request. They have banned people from uploading to the DLS before now although that is fairly rare.

It's the person whoso work has been reskinned without permission who has to request such auction.

Cheerio John

Auran doesn't give a damn for other peoples content; why should you
And plus the content I use are not on the dls, but there is a few up there that permission was not givin to that are.
Like I said, I'm sorry if what I say offends but it childish Bull____ to do what some do. Its very simple to take 2 mins and ask someone for something instead of just thinking you can take something and have your way with it.

Pretty much way too late for for those who have already downloaded them, And just another valid reason not to put stuff on the DLS. The warning's have been around for a long time now and there is more then enough threads covering this sort of thing but it still continue's.
Cheers Mick.

There is only a few ways to stop it. The only one I can think of is: Prosecute those who have done it and remove the content. I don't wanna see that happen but how else do you stop people in a situation like this??

Community policing. Taking them to court is a waste of time, money, and would clog the judicial systems (no matter where you are standing). Plus, how do you assign a value? Most likely it would end up in small claims court.

Community policing is the only effective way. The content creators are usually the ones to recognize their work and if they gave someone permission. Self appointed content cops most often get it wrong.

If you think something is fishy, let the original creator know....if it isn't legit, they can get N3V to remove it.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm not tryin to start or cause any problems but but maybe I am just hoping that those who have done this will recognize their selfish actions. There is non-sekinnable meshes out there for a reason. just because they don't say why its non-reskinnable doesn't mean its not important. I believe it means its nobobys business so don't bother asking and deal with it.

It's better than not putting it on the DLS though; the reliability record of third-party sites is beyond awful.

I am firmly in favor of permabanning uploaders who upload reskins without the original creator's permission. That said, there seem to be quite a lot of clueless people, particularly of the very young generation (note: I am not saying all young adults are like this!) who don't understand the concept of copyright and seeking permission. As others have said, realistically, the best we can do is self-police ourselves and punish individuals who break the rules.
