Are you a rail photographer??

A few of the I&M's coal trains sit in the yard at Powerton, two of which are to be handed back off to BNSF. Shortly after this photo was taken, railroad vehicles started swarming the yard. One of which was a Renzenberger crew van which appeared to have a lady assigned to one of the trains.

4501 at East Chattanooga and the Return Trip

Southern 4501 sits waiting to board the turntable at East Chattanooga

Southern 4501's on the turntable and is ready to be turned for the return trip to Grand Junction

Southern 4501's turning around on the turntable. If you look at the steam, you'll see 4501's leading axle and just how tight she fit's on the turntable

4501's tender on the turntable. You can see how so little room is left when 4501's on the turntable when you look at the rear axle on the tender

I tried to get an up close and personal shot of 4501's front. Obviously my timing was off

While the crew looks carefully at the end of the turntable, making sure the tracks line up perfectly, I take a side photo of 4501's front

Southern 4501's just gotten off the turntable. Note the MU cables on the rear of 4501's tender. It's one of several 'upgrades' 4501 got on her recent restoration

Southern 4501's passed the switch and prepares to back up to couple onto the train for the return trip to Grand Junction

We've just returned to Grand Junction. Southern 630's on display while Southern FP7 #6133 is prepared to take over the train

We pass by 630, showing off the signature southern valve gear

The rear of 4501's tender. I find it interesting the red light next to the rear headlight. You can see the reflection of the Rail Diesel Car (RDC) I'm in on 4501's tender

Southern 4501 pulls away from the train, while a Norfolk Southern SD60E leads a freight train by Grand Junction, with a Union Pacific EVO and UP SD70ACe or SD70M-2 behind the SD60E

Later: Some mainline activity before we head back to East Chattanooga behind Southern FP7 #6133

Nice one Sharknose...

One of the great things about living between two double-track mainlines is that everyday is railfan day. I took this pic with my phone on my morning walk a couple of weeks ago...:)

Cheers,

Back to Railfest 2014 . . .

Here we see a close-up of SD60E #6964 (Ex NS SD60 #6582) leading the container train previously pictured.

[/IMG]

Meanwhile, Southern 4501 gingerly backs around the wye at Grand Junction.

Not long after Southern FP7 #6133 couples onto the other end of the train, two Norfolk Southern SD70M-2's pass by with a container train. I didn't get this on camera, but the engineer of this train popped out onto the walkway on the side of the locomotive and waved at us before getting back into the cab.

A trip beind Southern FP7 #6133

North Carolina Transportation Museum's Southern FP7 #6133 has coupled onto our train at Grand Junction, waiting for permission to head to East Chattanooga.

As we depart Grand Junction, we see that 4501 has made it around the wye and is waiting for our train to leave Grand Junction to be positioned next to Southern #630.

[/IMG]

We see #630 sitting in the yard, on display, with 4501 still waiting for us to leave. Southern GP30 #2594 can be seen poking out behind all the passenger cars.

We go across a gravel railroad crossing. On the other side of the train is the passenger cars on the siding pictured previously on the trip behind 4501.

[/IMG]

We round Hunzinker Curve, nearing Missionary Ridge Tunnel.

We've exited Missionary Ridge Tunnel and are nearly at East Chattanooga.
