T:ANE (in development) screenshots...

Some more screenshots of TANE CE, this time from the bonus route one gets if one had preordered TANE.

Again, I like to point out, the SUN in TANE CE is SUPER BRIGHT and the fisheye lens distortion is grotesque to say the least. One has an exactly vertical item on the left of the screen angling away some 30 plus degrees to the left, similar some 30 plus degrees on the right for other perfectly vertical items. As far as I understand, this is getting fixed in the final release.

As long as you are aware of this looking at the screenshots here. Anything not lit up by the sun looks normal, hence it is no good turning down the brightness in game or when making screenshots. As these not lit items by the sun are then too dark looking.

This is the excellent route created by Philscene, looking like a model train layout in someones place.

Anyway on with the show, the sort of "table top" layout:

Starting off with some of my created locomotives for a test ride.

Very detailed and compact, a pleasure to try all the different scenarios included:

On the way home again:

Tomorrow I will try out another TANE CE route and I will post some screenshots here. Enjoy.

Cheers

Thanks for posting the screenshots.

The most impressive feature so far observed, IMHO, are the shadows which provide additional realism to the scenes. However, some are not fully connected to the base of the objects, but I guess this will be sorted out for the final version.

Any chance of some images of what the much duller British environment looks like? At the moment everything looks just too bright and shiny for our weather.

Hi Vinny --

Thanks for the images of the route. I'm in the process of putting together a new PC that will have the grunt to run T:ANE faster than the quick slide show I'm getting at present.

For those interested, the route and sessions were constructed in TS12. Compare the colours and brightness in this TS12 video with the images above (best watched full screen and in HD):

Some one mentioned UK? So some from my imported into T:ANE TS12 WIP and yes those are billboards. One obvious problem is the Alpha masking issue on the carriages, which should get sorted.

@clam52

Nice job on the billboards Malc. The variation in shading between the planes is barely detectable, but it would be a triumph if it could be eliminated altogether, as it is in earlier versions.

The shadows down the embankment and across the road look particularly good in the last shot with the low sun angle.

How do they look with the sun at a higher elevation? I guess that the billboard angles from two plane trees will then be discernible within the shadow area. If it is a problem, would a twisted two plane, or three (or more) flat plane trees work?

It's good to see that foliage can be constructed by a proficient creator without needing a highly expensive chunk of specialist “speedtree” software which, IMHO, produces a less realistic result.

Good work sir!

Casper

I'm using mainly 4 twisted planes and on some trees and bushes distorted them (cyclic quadrilateral shape if any one is interested) as well which considerably lessons the billboard angle problem, also means you can get away with one texture for different shaped trees. I'm hoping that when N3V turn down the brightness as with my trees in TS12 they will be even less noticeable, TS12 versions I had tweaked the diffuse and ambient values separately to knock out the lighting effect, in T:ANE at the moment they are using standard settings, if things go the other way and they look worse, I'm pretty sure some more tweaking of exporter setting will sort it.

Shadows do not appear to be affected by time of day and appear correctly even from above.

Weather hasn't been fully implemented yet, yes it's nice and cloudy and it rains however the terrain remains in bright sunlight, no fog settings yet either, all yet to come.

Hallo,
just to post some screens – here some of my Season Town Northern RR:

i took a couple screenshots but had to reduce my resolution since widescreen is bugged. Still have to fix my track since they got even pickier with thumbnails. The rendering of transparent objects or text still seems like it's being worked on.

I'm anxious to get working on things in TANE completely. TS12 is just so slow, even on a very high end system.

I have seen nothing from this "New Era" that justifies spending $5 on, let alone $50. It literally looks like N3V took the graphics and just turned the shadows and sharpness up a bit.

You can make all the fancy pre-release graphics, high quality cinematics of 765, and advertisements you want, but in the end, this is not a "New Era", this is the same game with a few new little features that you're making seem quite more grand than they actually are.

I agree, I don't see much difference between this and 12.

Until you actually try it, you can't judge whether it is good or not. you must also bear in mind that what you see is still a Beta version. My experience from running the CE release is that it is faster than TS12, it will accept TS12 content and it even made a TRS2004 route with billboard trees look good and run without judder, something that TS12 could not do.

My opinion, based on actually using the program, is that it will be the best one yet.

Well said, Peter. I too am getting utterly sick of the bashing on a BETA that most of the people doing the bashing HAVEN'T TRIED :n:

Well for starters this is a beta, so what you say doesn't matter until the final product is officially shown. Secondly, this game already runs smoother than TS12 and with a bit of tweaking the graphics will be a lot better than TS12. TS12 is a slideshow with barely any draw distance on even mid range PC's that play most other games flawlessly. I'm talking from experience here and really as long as n3v can iron out the major bugs then this game will be pretty good.

Hi guys, I'm working on a new layout based on the proposed rail-link line between Petrie and Kippa Ring in Queensland, which will officially open in 2016. I had problems trying to do screenshots in TANE, so these photos have been taken with my mobile, thus the poorer resolution. Anyway, I'm happy with the results that TANE can offer. http://www.royburnell.com/id28.html

I have to agree with you on this. It doesn't even look that close to the video that they released some time ago when they announced the new era and I don't see how in one month time. They are going to bring it up to that standard that was shown in the video.

Except that BETA has been out since October, and this is really just a public BETA with bug fixes and some other small things.
