Firstly my apologies for ignorance but I am new to this and would like to get Trainz 12 but worry that my Intel HD chipset may not be up to the task. I have listed below the relevant details from the Graphics Properties.

As far as I can tell, that's a Sandy Bridge processor. It'll run TS12, but you'll likely be limited to the less detailed routes, and will probably need to run your video settings in the game at a lower level.
What's the brand string for the processor? Is it an i7 / i5 / i3 / Celeron / Pentium?

It depends on which intel Graphics chip you have. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html The HD4000 and HD5000 are fairly reasonable.

I suggest using belarc http://belarc.com/ and use their free download it should give you a much better idea of the processor and graphics chip set. TS12, if you put the sliders well over to the left and select your content carefully that means not necessarily using the built in stuff, should run on just about about anything made in the last four years other than a low end lap top. Low end lap tops are built to preserve battery life rather than for performance.
