817Taylor's Works in Progress

Ramblin' Man..
I have been juggling a few routes around and I feel I should start a thread to post and show the work I do on them. I did a B&O route a while back that looked like this.

I am now working on a PRR route.

As it stands for the route is in the VERY early phases of construction and I want criticism as I go along. I am debating on doing a woodsy area or farmland. Woodland would be interesting but it would eat frames. I am thinking of doing a little of both.
Also for the hills that fade out to the back side of the route, I would like suggestions on how to cover them and how to do a ground cover. Can anyone suggest anything for me before I continue on this?

Looks good so far, as for the mountains, I'd do some nice quality trees close up then use spline or 2d trees further away.

Sitting here looking at the route I feel it could be better. I am not too fond of the layout but I am going to try to give it some life.
:p

That is actually the type of area I am hoping to create, in a sense. Here is what I have to show for an hour.

I agree with simulatortrain and being from that area it does look like Amish country. Only beef I have is the use of a 4-4-0 for freight hauling! There is only 1 H class on the DLC, it runs good but the paint schema is way off or use KL's L1 another nice looker.

K&L is planning to strip all the stripage off of the 4-4-0 and I was told that the PRR Sold the D16's to small railroads who wanted steam for freight service in the dying age of steam. The D16 could have been seen hauling locals and since this route ends at a mountain side with a coal loader that can only service 4 cars at a time, the D16 is the ideal locomotive for this. I just have a session with a lager train for a more, filling affect. Here is an update

Looks good but I would suggest adding shadows below the trees with a darker texture.

Keep up the good work. :)

Cheers

it doesn't say RBMN and I do intend to keep it. The reskin for a friend so he's happy, and after being up ALL night working, I can finally get back to work on my route. Favor for favor, he's been asking this for months, I needed a favor from him, so we're doing each other favors.
