Trains In The Movies

Building the Wisbech line
This is the thread that includes trains, trams or trolley cars either in a brief cameo appearance or as a part of the integral plot of the movie.

Here is the full list of Clint Eastwood movies I currently know of (by watching my Clint Eastwood DVD box-set) that feature a train somewhere within the movie...

* For A Few Dollars More (1965)

* The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (1966)

* Where Eagles Dare (1968)

* Two Mules For Sister Sara (1969)

* Kelly's Heroes (1970)

* Joe Kidd (1972)

* The Eiger Sanction (1975)

* The Gauntlet (1977)

* Every Which Way But Loose (1978)

* Bronco Billy (1980)

* Firefox (1982)

* Tightrope (1984)

* Pale Rider 1985)

Coronation Street has featured the Blackpool Tramway a couple of times, as well as the opening sequence featuring Manchester's Metrolink. But it's not really a movie, is it?

BN 6244 makes an appearance in the movie "Groundhog Day" starring Bill Murray. This locomotive, I believe, is currently at the Illinois Railroad Museum.

How The West Was Won, 1962 - James Stewart, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Henry Fonda; the train robbery and crash scene near the end. :) Featured the Mikado-type locomotive that is now Texas State Railroad #400.

I watched part of "Paycheck" movie where the man tried to avoid being ran down by a train that is similar to AirTrain at JFK airport. I think that AirTrain is computer-controlled but an operator is sitting in the cab, ready to take over control of the train in case of emergency. If so, why didn't the operator stop the train in the movie when he/she see the man on the track? The man short-circuited the electronics that controlled signals, causing the signals to turn red and the train to stop.

"The Train Robbers" starring John Wayne had a few bits with an old 2-6-0.
"Bound for Glory" featured a double-headed freight on the Sierra Railroad, disguised as the Santa Fe. The train was so long it plugged up the Jamestown yard for a few days while the cars were hauled off.
"Breakheart Pass" is a murder mystery set aboard a train up in the mountains.
These are just a few examples.

-From Russia With Love features an entire segment on what is supposed to be Orient Express.

-You Only Live Twice features a single (diesel?) Railcar.

-On Her Majesty's Secrer Service has a scene with what looked liked an MOB passenger train.

-Live and Let Die has a brief view of an early Amtrak train, specifcally a Santa Fe sleeper.

-Octopussy has a segment with a German Circus Train (which was filmed on the Nene Valley Railway in England).

-A View to a Kill has scenes with a narrow gauge mining railway (filmed at a museum of which I cannot remember the name of)

-The Living Daylights features several Prague Trams.

-Goldeneye has an armored train (a diguised BR Class 20).

-Skyfall as has some train scenes as well.

I know this is not a movie, but the Bond book 'Diamonds are Forever' features a whole chapter describing a vintage train.

On a movie note, there is of course, The Silver Streak, featuring F7's

The New York Central's 20th Century Limited features prominently in Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest (1959). There's also a lewd visual gag at the end of that film involving a Southern Pacific train with both "Black Widow" and "Bloody Nose" F-units leading.
