When you cannot do a runaround.

An Re 4/4 II out of Erstfeld waits at Gurtnellen for its partner to arrive in order to be able to deliver four Hbis at the local Schmelzmetallwerk.

In order to get there the consist must be pushed - lest the locomotive will remain "boxed ind" until the wagons are loaded. The track layout at Gurtnellen does not allow for a runaround manouver without using the mainline, there for it is preferred to use two locomotives for the job in stead during peak hours. This obviously does not apply for trains arriving from destinations on the Wassen side of the line.

On this particular day the shunting crew has travelled along in the Sputnik at the end of the consist. Normally they arrive by car out of Erstfeld
