Is Your Bell Missing?

Somewhere between 2009 and 2012 and upgrading to Windows 10, the bell went missing on a number of diesel locos -- many (but not all) F7s and jkerlee's EMD 1500 switcher among them. After thrashing around a while it became apparent the issue was connected to a common hornsound asset, "ALCo" <kuid:-1:42003103> through its latest version, "ALCo Hornsound" <kuid:-2:996>. The name of the bell file is "idle 1.wav."

Although "idle 1.wav" plays fine on a media player, it's in the wrong format for Trainz 12 on Windows 10. Open it in an audio editor such as Audacity and you find it's in MME format. Save it (overwrite the original) in the Windows format and it will ring on command.

For the general convenience I've posted a corrected file on the DLS, "ALCO 1500 Horn" <kuid2:373500:100127:1>. It has only been tested in build 61388 on Win 10.

This solution may also pertain to hornsound assets with different (missing) bells, but I haven't run across them yet.

:B~)
