OK - time for some more pictures. I've been adding scenery to one of the areas of the route I hadn't touched much before, so I've now almost got the main route from the edge into the centre complete...

These pictures represent a circular journey into the inner suburbs and back by another route:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_165.jpg
Starting out at Flinders Square in the heart of Bridgehampton.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_166.jpg
The grand approach to the main line station (much still to be done in this area).

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_167.jpg
Shakespeare Street stop in the inner suburbs. The tramway shares it's alignment here with a heavy rail branchline that has been singled to accomodate it (note to self - more foliage required).

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_168.jpg
Terrace backs (nice one Chris7464) line the route...

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_169.jpg
Coromandel Heath main line station. The tramway low level station is hidden behind the flyovers. Three tram routes and the branchline serve this cosmopolitain inner suburb.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_170.jpg
A view from the other side of the station. The other route into town passes the station's front door.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_171.jpg
Stone terraces line St James' Road back down the hill into town.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_172.jpg
Further down the road...

St. James' Road stop for the Hospital.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_174.jpg
Back in the Old Town at Cathedral stop.

Still lots to do - I've had to be pretty selective about where I take my shots, but I'm progressing quite well...

Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouragement...

Klinger - Yes I remember when the only trams I could find for Trainz were the MBTA trolleys. Now that's still about all there is for the USA, and there's loads from mainland Europe, plus antique trams from the UK and Australia...

And here's one shot I had left over...

Sturt Street Stop from the bridge over the river.

I usually try to make my shots look as complete as possible (no grey squares, mysterious spaces, missing overhead etc), so it probably makes my routes look almost finished when actually it's all very selective photography...

Anyway, in a break from my usual practice, here are some of the bits I have yet to finish before I release the first section...

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_175.jpg
Elevated section heading from the Old Town towards the docks.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_176.jpg
Northbound across the other river, and up the hill (and then underground).

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_177.jpg
View back towards the town.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_178.jpg
The bridge next to Sturt Street Stop (looking the other way to all of the previous pictures - now you know why...)

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_179.jpg
Main line station and approach. The tunnel leads to the low-level station.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_180.jpg
Southern station approaches and carriage sheds.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_181.jpg
Northern Station approaches (still don't know quite what I'm doing here)

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_182.jpg
Industrial area to the west of the main line station.

So, as you can see, there's still a lot to be done...

WHERE can I get those trams? Very nice!

paulzmay
January 21st, 2007, 04:23 PM
Thanks for all your kind words! I really appreciate your comments! :D

@Tramways - the poles with the arched arms (single and double) are by michael-h and are (I think) called oberleitungsmast. The crosswires with plain poles attached are by Andi06, and the single wire spline I have used is called "line only" and is part of a russian catenary set. All are on the DLS.

@Puziparrot - Yes the heavy rail branch joins the main line at Bridgehampton station. It's the left hand brown ballasted track in the sixth pic in my previous post - it does continue, I've just got my draw distance set way down...

@Klinger - Don't put Phlanx down - it was part off the inspiration for building this route. I'd be interested to see what you do to it...

@Callum027 - Now there's a question without a short answer... Search the DLS for Denis_Fr and Cosey for starters. The boxy orange and cream tram (GT6) is from Modula City (payware), but is built into TRS06. Many of the others are from http://www.barowa.tubaza.net/PTram/index.php
I think that covers most of them, but if there is one in particular you like the look of, I can give more specific directions...

I'll post some more WIP shots later, but now I'm off to work...

Yes the Russian site might be easy to get them, but just wait till you see the config menu for the cars, I just clicked on each one at a time to have a look at all the options, Route number and run number change various lighting option, headlight, Marker and cab passenger area, and may others, the menu is quite long and fun to play with.

Well is that not why we are here to help each other .....

Thanks for your kind comments - I'll certainly announce it's release - I wouldn't keep quiet after so much time and effort! And Ish - one or two of your buildings will certainly feature...

I notice that quite a few of the earlier posts in this thread (anything without pictures) have disappeared. Anyone any idea? And one of my posts now has someone else's name on it... This is a bit of a pain, as I've been asked a few questions about the development of the route, and the answers are still pertinent. So can anyone suggest a reason for what has happened?

@Callum027 - Now there's a question without a short answer... Search the DLS for Denis_Fr and Cosey for starters. The boxy orange and cream tram (GT6) is from Modula City (payware), but is built into TRS06. Many of the others are from http://www.barowa.tubaza.net/PTram/index.php
I think that covers most of them, but if there is one in particular you like the look of, I can give more specific directions...

Paul

Some very nice trams on this website. Are they compatible with Trainz 2004 or are they just for 2006?

Thanks for this link.

@Klinger - Don't put Phlanx down - it was part off the inspiration for building this route. I'd be interested to see what you do to it...

im glad it was good for somthing :D

im mostly working on fixing the paper thin cantanery supports, i didnt use the building version, i only used splines, im working on a railroad museum with overhead lines to get some practice with high detail overhead.

the good thing is ill have alot less work to do then building the whole layout from scratch :D

i also may add a new line, just to kinda show progress for a growing city, and ill be deleting some buildings, in hopes of getting better FPS

now if some one can build some modern american LRVs ill be set!!

If you look at the pics on ptrams site the later ones are marked 2006 but still run in 2004 ok, i think it just means they have been tested in 2006 and work ok but are marked in the config as version 2.4 not 2.5.

Wow! Every time I look in there are more posts! I thought modern tramways were a bit of a minority interest, at least in the English speaking world...

@Klinger - I'm glad to have inspired you to carry on building. Tram catenary can be a bit of a challenge, but it's well worth the effort to get right. I did once answer a post on this thread asking where I got the stuff I use, but I think it's been "tidied up"...

@Buddhaben - Yes, they are both on the DLS. The first is by Cosey - there are lots of variants, some single ended, some double ended. The second is the Dublin LUAS livery Citadis tram by Denis_fr. I've increased the mass of the Citadis to improve it's AI acceleration.

@3830 - The roads are mostly Andi06's street kit and tram kit, with extra details by Engfer, and some items from mgreen48, and a variety of other pavements (sidewalks). I've spent a lot of time developing a method for triggering the traffic lights in Andi's kit (which are basically level crossings) when the rails do not actually link to them. This gives a massive amount of flexibility in designing junction layouts - almost every road junction you see in these shots has control of all conflicting tram and car movements, and includes such things as T-junction traffic lights, right turn lanes controlled separately, traffic light controlled roundabouts, motorway junctions with traffic lights controling access to the slip roads, one lane of traffic appearing to split into two, with some traffic going each way and so on. This picture gives a bit of an idea of what's involved...

This layout is simply amazing. It makes me feel a little ashamed of my efforts to make an English based tram layout now. I look at your junctions (especially the cross section style picture) and I am bewildered. I have not got a clue when it comes to programming traffic or traffic lights. I can just about make a tram go in the opposite direction on my light rail system, but this is amazing.

I will post some pics tomorrow on another thread.

Where did you get the Alstom Tram?

paulzmay
February 15th, 2007, 04:45 PM
Sleaze,

Glad you like the route. Don't worry about being bewildered, as far as I know I'm the only one building junctions like this - it's a bit beyond what Andi06 had in mind when he created the street kit! The tutorial on his website is a good place to start, then just play with the bits and see what you can acheive...

I look forward to seeing your pictures when you post them.

The tram is by Denis_fr, and is on the DLS - search for Citadis in the name field.

@Boat - thanks for the kind words. The junctions are a bit of a challenge, but they all seem to work OK - it doesn't look like there is much you can't do (except split traffic in two directions) if you apply a bit of lateral thinking...
I don't know about scenario code - I suspect it has no effect on traffic, and so wouldn't help much. Most of the clever stuff in this in Andi06's street kit, abused to its limits, and a large number of triggers and rules.

Anyway, I'm sure I posted some pictures this morning, which have since disappeared... so either this forum is playing up, or I dreamed it (rolleyes removed due to too many pics)

Hi Paul,

Yes, I take your point about Andi06's crossings. I only really paid them any attention recently, even though I noticed them some time ago. They are phenomenal, as is the rest of the street kit.
My only comment about using the crossings in a scenario, (rather than a session) would be that the scenario could control the switching junctions directly rather than the AJS Traffic control. No, it won’t make any difference to the traffic but it may give more direct control to what is being switched, specific to the layout. I would have said that should mean more flexibility in what can be done….. except you seem to have done it anyway!!!!! HOW?

Andio6’s idea to use level crossings in this way really was a spark of genius which you have built on in a fantastic way.

Keep it up,

Now if only we could split traffic in 2 directions. Can you?

Boat

paulzmay
February 19th, 2007, 07:06 AM
@3830 - That looks like one of Bloodnoks new UK signals on the DLS. They are part of a kit that allows for automatic generation of signal feathers...

@Boat - I suspect that using scenario control might be more complex than using the AJS controllers, but I don't really know.
As far as how it's done, there are a variety of techniques I've used to acheive a variety of situations, it would take a while to describe all of them, so you may have to be more specific...
As for traffic split in 2 directions, I can only make it look like it ;) No-one can do it for real, unless you can animate attachment points...

If I read the thread correctly, this simply forces traffic to turn right instead of left where splines diverge (very useful if you drive on the right). However (unless you know different) it doesn't split traffic flow into more than one direction.

@Boat - the direction arrows, and some of the other markings are by engfer, and are on the DLS.

You've been busy. We know we've taken ideas from each other's layout, I'd like to steal couple of your ideas I see here ;)

What's the medieval bridge? (seen on http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_244.jpg)
What is the cobble texture, church and pavements here? (seen on http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_162.jpg)
the pavements I recognise, but what are the road lines and the multi storey car park in the background (seen on http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_173.jpg)
what are the pavements and balisha beacons? (seen on http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/tScreen_194.jpg)

Finally, I've noticed the curved single and double catenary poles. If you're bored of them, you can use http://www.smokefilledroom.co.uk/Gregsworld/Files/trainz/cdp/pack_catenaire_tram_ancienne.cdp which are similar single track catenary poles similar to the ones you've used. they're trackside items and will clip, wireless, to the track.

You've seen I've started (almost done) Chesterfield Tramway and it is only a testbed for Sheffield's, you've given me so many ideas, I'm keen n getting content kuid for me to do that ;) You've definitely got a feel in your tramlayout, the main thing is the feeling that tram has been built after the city, even if in practice the opposite is true.

Congrats on the work, you're the man!

@Captain_Scarlet - Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement! I'll try to answer your questions...

The medieval bridge is a recent spline by Brook from the DLS. There is a 6m and 8m wide version.

The cobble texture is by Andi06, part of his street kit. The church is by Brook (called chapel - stone). The pavements (except the island) are by mcortes - search for acera on the DLS (found under spain in surveyor). The island is by RW1HH (Rolf Westfalen).

The road lines are from Andi06's street kit. The car park markings are by gfisher 106916:10078 and 106916:10077. The multi storey is by kenichiro.

The zebra crossings are by Andi06. The pavements in this one are by engfer.

I look forward to seeing Chesterfield completed, and I'll really enjoy seeing Sheffield.

All the best...

Take a look in the Survayor section for a thread labelled "Trams again" by rjhowie. It's dropped a few pages back, but it's still there. The signals on the French site are the only thing where there isn't an alternative on the DLS though, but it is a good place to find trams that aren't. There's another screenshot thread somewhere dedicated to subways, urban shots and tramways somewhere.

For track, the most commonly used is probably that by Andi06 and Motorman1066, but they aren't the only people. for the Westhaven trams, search for me :),but the originals were by Silversmith.

There are also a number of Eastern European tramway fans, where you might use the trams elsewhere.

The route is not available yet, and it will be at least a few months before it is finished. However, as it is currently in TRS04, and I will be upgrading to '06 ver soon (new computer too), I may well upload an unfinished version for the benefit of people still using TRS2004.

And the street kit was written for '04.

Time for new shots!

I haven't got much more done, but I am now working on TRS06 on my new machine. I will upload a 2004 version fairly soon, but it will be unfinished and not guaranteed. I need to sort out permission for a couple of re-skinned items first...

Anyway, on with the pictures...

OK - I've uploaded the sign, together with most of the custom items for the route. One pack rejected (silly error), so I'll do it again tonight. I'm still waiting to see if I can upload the variable speed boards, and I need to do some more work on a couple of building re-skins.

Hi Paul,

Once again I keep coming here and being blown away by your layout. I am upgrading my PC soon and I hope to be able to run the route. I look forward to being able to download it and run it.

I have not forgotten that I promised you some pictures of my layout and I will be doing those. Unfortunately I may leave it until I have upgraded because I want to finnish some sections of the line first.

BTW, it is mostly not allowed to send any foreign content which makes asking for it a violation against the CoC: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/CodeOfConduct.htm

paulzmay
August 11th, 2007, 04:27 AM
@Bolivar - The silver poles you see are by michael-h and are on the DLS. The green ones are on PTram http://www.ptram.rwi.pl/ (registration required) in the section titled "Inne". For wires I either use the ones built into Denis_fr's track, or the new wires by crofelix on the DLS. I've also used Andi06's posts (grey with a spanwire between them).

It probably is, but I've done almost nothing to the route since the last ones. I've spent most of my Trainz time recently on the next phase of my Westhaven route, doing re-skins and on trying to teach myself G-Max...

This work includes a project I'm working with BidMod on to create a set of UK style tramway signs:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/Screen_068-1.jpg

These are BidMod's mesh (with a few minor edits in some cases), and some textures from each of us... I hope to have a full set both with and without posts, left and right hand, with diverge limits and other ancillary signs ready in the next few weeks. The without posts will be in a range of offsets, and I've adjusted the mesh so it should sit on the front face of Silversmith's poles.

Unfortunately most of the download will be the dependencies, which, without permission, I couldn't upload elsewhere. If the route proves to be huge I may take up your suggestion, but it will only help to a limited extent.

I've used more than one kind, so I'm not sure which you mean. Some are attached to the traffic lights by Andi06, some are by yannl, downloadable from BLH-trainz.com http://www.blh-trainz.com/downloads/SIGNAUX%20TRAM.cdp . I've also used colour light signals by Bloodnok.

Keep it coming Paul, EXCELLENT!

One question, not about the trams but about the mainline TRACK.

I'm in the middle of building a route using AJS's animated points. I'm therefore using one of the track choices associated with those points.

You seem to be using what looks like Bloodnok's VSR track for your main electrified line, (which in my opinion is one of the best track sets around). But you also seem to be using animated points…. Which from the picture at the bottom of page 7 of this thread, (view through train front window), seem to fit-in with the VSR track. I didn’t think the VSR track was compatible with the AJS point meshes…. So, have you found a way, or are you using different animated points, or am I seeing things?

Thanks,

Boat, (Mike)

The track is indeed VSR 3rd rail with Andi06's points. I just used the closest match, and hoped it wouldn't look too bad. I'm still looking for a 3rd rail spline to fill in the gaps with...

Progress on the route at the moment is non-existent, and I'm going to re-work much of the overhead and many of the crossings and junctions, so it will be a long while yet. I have, however just had permission to upload my re-skins of Cosey's trams (see a few posts earlier), so I'll finish them off and upload...

Thanks Paul......

Yes, the rail mesh is a bit thicker on the points than the VSR track. Maybe we can persuade Andi06 to do his brilliant point with a VSR mesh sometime…. For VSR lovers?!

Meantime I’m using AJS default track, (and to be honest, since I run scenarios and not sessions, it’s a bit difficult to change to the others anyway).

One other thing Paul, (or anyone).

I've just got a 'roadworks - single lane - alternate stop-go' set-up to work using AJS's street set, (and a bit of my scenario).

I would love to find a SINGLE facing roadworks style traffic light that has scriptable coronas . Drawn a blank so far on the DLS.

I wondered if you had any ideas?

Thanks,

paulzmay
December 24th, 2007, 09:41 AM
@Isaacg - I doubt if the route will be fully TC compatible. I suspect there will at least be a large amount of missing content from TRS06. I'm trying to use a decent amount of built-in stuff to avoid folks having too much to download, unfortunately this may leave TC users out in the cold... Once the route is ready, I'd like someone to try it, and see how easy the conversion is.

I suspect that CAB would not allow a re-skin of the NF10, but you can always ask. As it's only a single ended tram it could only be used on one line of the route, so I'd rather re-skin something reversible (for instance Denis_fr's Citadis).

@Lo_poly - Thanks! I think it's by Advance, and it's on the DLS for certain.

@ Boat - Hmm - good luck with that request. Andi doesn't usually go for fiddly requests like that - he is, however, very generous with his meshes, so if you fancy having a go yourself, it's always worth asking.
I'm working on single ended traffic lights myself at the moment, working from Andi's original traffic lights. A road-works version is certainly possible - send me a picture, and I might get round to it. Single ended versions of Andi's lights are definitely going to happen, though.

@Everyone - MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

All the best...

Hi! Yeah, I see what you mean about the NF10. You could alway pop in a turntable(but that'd take up to much space). Btw, I saw someone reskin the NF10 FOR THEIR OWN USE, OF COURSE. Abou the Compatability with TC-- I have most of the Content from 06 in TC! And evrything from even 04 is in TC...;)

It's not just the turning round - that can easily be accomplished with turning loops, it's more the fact that, as a German tram, all the doors are on the right, so to run it in the UK, all the platforms have be in the middle of the road....

I've done this on one line, but it would look silly for the whole network.

In fact, you were right the first time. I'm a Brit who moved over here 2½ years ago. I just got my Aussie citizenship about a week ago in fact. I guess I still have a better feel for what looks right in the UK than I have for Australia.

Hope you enjoy your trip to the UK - the train is a pretty good way of getting about for a visitor. If you expect to travel by train a lot, then investigate a Britrail pass. If you go to London take the train whatever - driving is a nightmare...

Hi!

Thanks for travelling tip! I can't drive anyway because I'm 14. The reason why I'm going to the U.K. is because I'm on a student ambassador trip! LOL. The Program staff have all the transportation info. So I don't really know if ill be taking a train, coach or airplane. Congrats on you're citizenship. My mother is from NZ and she's trying to get American citizenship but, it's taking soooo llllooonnng. Btw, How do I use Andi06's Street kit-- meaning the one way and multi-lane roadways. I set them up in surveyor but the still go the same way. Grrrr! I put a signal in the scene and the traffic controller, etc. and The lights work but not the Streets!!!!! GRRRRRRRRR! Do you also know of any modern tramway stations(apart from cosey and iceman)? You're route is nice. When do you reckon it will be released? TODAY(I wish!!!) I could beta test if you want!

Hi Paul.... Thanks for the suggestions. The AJS default track will be fine for now!
And I don't have any pictures of the lights I'd like. Don't mind really, just so long as its a single way, stand alone type. Mods to Andi06's will be fine when they happen. Hello

Exist timetable functionally for Trainz 2006? or modern Tram with destinaton table?

paulzmay

@Isaacg - This tutorial http://www.ajsmith.nildram.co.uk/trs/pdf/street%20kit.pdf should give you what you need to know about traffic lights and one-way streets.

I can't think of any other tram stops at the moment. Most of mine are built from the AJS station kit, with -Basti-'s platform splines and other items added by hand.

The route is still a long way off. There is quite a lot of the overhead and junctions I'm not very happy with, and I'm spending most of my Trainz time working on the extension to my Westhaven project. I will certainly let you beta test if you're interested, but it will probably be 6 months + away. You will also need a pretty fast computer and either a first class ticket or the patience of a saint for downloading the dependencies...

@Boat - some of the lights I'm already working on sound like they would be suitable. Drop me a PM with your e-mail address, and I'll send you a beta.

Right now it's a bit too warm here - it topped 40°C yesterday, and it's forecast even higher today.

@GHEORGHITA - There are rules for creating timetables in TRS2006, but I have used the 'schedule library' rule and 'copy commands' driver command to control the trams on this route.

@Everyone - Happy New Year!

paulzmay

I think you need to re-read the tutorial a little more carefully. Where you have traffic going the wrong way you need to force it to turn off, leaving you with only the traffic you want. Try setting up the examples shown in the document to get an idea. Going into Driver doesn't affect the flow of traffic, except that the traffic lights only work in Driver.

You're welcome to beta test (send me your e-mail address by PM)- my lights look like Andi06's, because I've based them on his G-Max files that he was kind enough to supply.

By the way, this probably isn't the best place for these queries - there hasn't been a screenshot in over a page now...

Remember reading in the forum about people adding a visable or non-visible non traffic road to make one way streets, it it is invisable or matched the street in use you could ut it between the street and the intersection might have crs being genereated just dissapearing but might be the best we can do.

Only other way I can think of is a non Traffic street and use invisble Traffic spines to get it to do what you want

Hope this helps

@Tom - That's pretty much what I usually do. As traffic is only generated at the visible ends of road splines, if these are no-traffic, you won't get any generated at that end. Where you have ready made intersections that generate traffic, adding a short length of invisible no-traffic road will cure this.

@Isaacg - No progress at all in weeks, as I'm spending all my Trainz time on the Westhaven route (which I'm glad you like). I have, however created a few assets I intend to use on Bridgehampton, so it's a small step in the right direction.

Good luck with the Cornish route...

paulzmay
January 17th, 2008, 04:31 PM
Sometime this year (probably). I'm sorry, but whenever I make some kind of estimate it always proves to be very wrong. I'm going to finish Westhaven Coastal first, and then come back to it, so it will not be in the next six months whatever.

The level of interest in a route that I haven't worked on in weeks is certainly encouraging. I will finish it eventually - I just have a lot to fix and revise that I'm no longer happy with (mostly overhead and road / tram junctions).

In the meantime, you might want to start downloading about half the DLS (over 2000 assets used so far), and getting a PC upgrade - you'll need it... :p

Oh, and this is still only phase 1...

Inspired by this thread, I’ve just made a ‘single facing’ traffic light that will work with the AJS Street Kit.

There will be three choices of position. Either a single light, mid road position or two diagonally opposite single facing lights for LHD or the same for RHD, (and totally invisible.)
It does not have tram signals but you can wire it in to work with the AJS lights.
Also, there is a choice of traffic detector visible or not. And you can have a concrete base, a barrel base or no base.
Unless I have any unforeseen problems it should be on the DLS in a week or so, It will be <kuid:76656:1152>.

It’s based on Andi06’s 3.5 crossing and uses a modified script from that asset. Thanks to Andi for the permission to modify.

Just to let you know, (and an excuse to keep this thread alive), I've just put my Road Switcher, (point) up on the DLS that may be of interest to city scape fans...

BTW - it's a bit tidier not to quote all of the screenshots from a post. In fact it really winds some folks upWell YES it does ANNOY people. But I avoid it by using "No quoting permitted", or better still, just use the link addresses to the images. Quoting images also involves unnecessary scrolling.

Paulzmay, is it still going to be TRS2004 suitable?
Also, what video program are you using, as I don't see the fraps logo on your videos.

paulzmay
March 23rd, 2008, 03:56 AM
I wouldn't go as far as to ban quoting, as sometimes quoting a single picture (especially from several pages back) is easier than saying 'the third picture in the second post on page 5'. Just quoting the whole post was a little lazy - plus it took me a while to realise there was a Combino in the pictures, as it was only in one of the thumbnails in the middle.

The route will be for '06 only as it is now. I still have a copy of it from pre-conversion, but a lot has been done since. It also has a re-skinned speedboard that I have since changed because I never managed to get permission, so that would forever be a missing dependency.

The program is from www.zdsoft.com , and I think it's called game recorder. I've heard it reported that it has a lesser impact on frame rates than fraps. I've just got the free demo, so it's only about a minute a time. There's a couple more on my Westhaven screens thread if you're interested.

@Isaacg - Most of the buildings you can see in that shot are by Polish creators (some by kilanziom perhaps). I'll check kuids when I have the route up next. They are all fairly recent, and mostly on the DLS (I think).

@Boat - they're downloaded - expect to see them on one of my routes soon(ish).

@Greg - That cobble texture is by Andi06, part of his street kit. The pavement is by mcortes from the DLS. That last shot is in fact between diverging tracks at the approach to the central station, hence the wasteland look.

@Everyone - thanks for your kind comments - I will finish it one day - promise :o

Hi Paul & All.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread again but its fast becoming THE thread for Street Fans………. And you said you were going to use my Pelican Crossings, so……

There is a problem with the 9 Metre version. The plan was that putting a ‘train’ (from AJS’s Traffic Controller) on the ‘90 degrees to the road’ track would set the Pelican Crossing to operate. That’s fine.

The other two tracks, set parallel to the road were there to connect trams track to, and run trams across. These were not intended to operate the Pelican Crossing….. But they do!
Trainz sees the approaching tram as a ‘train coming’ and operates the crossing and stops the traffic. Of course it does – Doh! I only realised this when I used them myself in a proper scenario!!!

The workaround for now will be to NOT connect tram track to the ‘parallel to the road’ track. Just use it as a guide and lay your tram track over that invisible track. I’ll see if I can come up with a fix and issue a kuid2, but since the Trainz Native coding does this, I doubt if there is one…. Other than removing the ‘tram track’ attachment points altogether!

Sorry for the mess up. :'(

Probably wrong thread but as you said it's been hi-jacked by street scene.

I am using your Pelican crossings on a tram layout. They will only work if connected to another Pelican crossing. Am I doing something wrong or can they not be used as a stand alone feature?

I tried connecting both the invisible tracks at 90deg to the road but it wouldn't work. Connecting to another Pelican and it does!

Do you have an instruction site somewhere?

I'm making a bit of progress at the moment (the PC with my Westhaven project in TRS2004 on it has died - don't worry it's probably only the Motherboard, and I have a recent backup). I'll post some screens when I have something to show.

Cosey has given me permission to upload the LRV re-skins. They are almost complete, except for the destination textures.

I was thinking of having a go at re-skinning Denis_fr's Citadis trams too, but I haven't asked him yet...

Paul

That sounds good Paul! I'm looking forward to the BN LRV and Citadis as well. I was thinking of reskining PTram's combino(with permission, of course)

Hi Boat

Probably wrong thread but as you said it's been hi-jacked by street scene.

I am using your Pelican crossings on a tram layout. They will only work if connected to another Pelican crossing. Am I doing something wrong or can they not be used as a stand alone feature?

I tried connecting both the invisible tracks at 90deg to the road but it wouldn't work. Connecting to another Pelican and it does!

Do you have an instruction site somewhere?

Regards
Coachman888

Hi CoachMan,

Yes, they should work on their own but you will need to use an AJS Traffic Controller - Kuid2:122285:1152:1 to make it operate. (See my Properties Dialogue Box). There are instructions in the AJS Traffic Controller asset as well. You need to connect this to either of the 90 degree tracks.

As I say, the only problem is, don't use the parallel rail tracks in the 9Mtr version.

Perhaps I didn’t make this quite clear, so I’ll do some instructions and post them in 'Freeware Announcements' when I get chance. Look out for a thread called 'Pelican Crossing Instructions'. It may be a few days before I have time though.

Future things about Pelicans can then be posted there giving this thread back to Paul!!! Sorry.

In a word - No!

There's not a huge number of blank boards left, but there is an awful lot that I'm not happy with in many areas of the route. I may also need to look at rationalising the assets used in some areas so you don't need a super-computer to run it...

At the same time, I'm also putting the finishing touches to the second Westhaven route (which is stuck on my dead PC at the moment), and I've also made a start to two new projects (I know I shouldn't). One of these is an outer suburban module which will later become a part of Bridgehampton Metro, and the other is totally unrelated. I'll post some pictures of the suburban module later.

Paul

p.s. It's getting on for 2 years now... I think I started in September 2006.

A bit of an aerial view. The route will be about 4 boards, stretching from a business park in open countryside, past a major out-of town shopping centre, and then heading towards the city...

And that's all for now...

@Delia - oops - I read your post ages ago, and then forgot to reply - sorry! The buildings are by weevil, and are titled Industrial D01 - Industrial D10. The pyramids are by Bendorsey, and the arcade glass roofs are part of Andi06's station kit. The entrances are the conference hall from www.mytrainz.tk by Angelus12.

@ICEIT - Thanks for your kind words. It will be on the DLS when finished, but that will be quite a while still (probably next year). Subscribe to this thread for updates, and it will let you know any news. It's not generally advisable BTW to post your e-mail address on the forum, as that's one of the main ways that spammers get hold of e-mail addresses. In the meantime, my previous route Westhaven Trams is on the DLS, and I'll be releasing an extension to that first...

Don't mind at all if you extend for personal use. If you haven't started yet, you may want to wait a bit and add it to my extension (or extend the other way). I've raised my game considerably since the first version, so there's better overhead, better track alignment, proper tram lanes & road markings, better road crossings, people, new signals and new speed signs. All this in addition to the tram extension, narrow gauge line, and standard gauge extension... (pictures here if you're interested http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=6544)

The track in the foreground of the picture is Andi06's tram track (without wires), with my red asphalt spline added. In the background you can just make out track by Denis_fr.

@Delia - They are Trainz 1.3, and coming up fine for me on the TRS04 DLS page. Try kuid 9000:27410 and download the pack.

@kevaylett - They are by me, and will be released in the next few weeks. They are based on the tramsignal mesh from Andi06's crossings, but enlarged to regulation size, and with individual coronas for each LED. They come in left and right hand versions at various offsets from the track, and also include diverge versions.

Still plugging away slowly. I'll be re-fitting the main route with BOAT's ATLS traffic light system, and re-building the overhead, so that will still be a long time coming. I should also upgrade my memory before I get into that.

The two mini routes may well be finished sooner. There's not a lot to do on the Bridgehampton South 1 board route - it's mostly a test bed for ATLS anyway. The Hampton Mall route has just had a 2 board rural extension added, so I'll finish that bit before I release it.

My next release will probably be my next Westhaven Route, which I'm getting beta tested now.

So I'm not totally idle... just really slow.

@ Red - I don't have one at the moment unless it's in this thread. I can take one for you when I next have the route loaded. I have a added another small island in the foreground, so I'll probably have to work around that.

@mgreen48 - Good to see you back in the forums. I'm still using a lot of your stuff regularly (mostly roads). I think I may have used your under-construction skyscrapers a few times too.

What you see in this thread is actually three routes, which may one day grow into each other. I'm hoping to get the smallest one out in the next month or two. The largest is probably over a year away...

By the way, can I ask what your policy is on re-skins and re-use of textures? I'm working on some additional pavement (sidewalk) splines and corners similar to what Andi06 was working on, and it may be handy to use some of you textures, or re-skin some of your roads with my textures.

Been watching this thread for a while now and am enjoying all the screenshots, your route is progressing nicely! I look forward to having a spin on it. I know it will probably be a while till you release it, so in the mean time i have been working on an improved version of my Edenbridge Tram route. The route is almost complete and it would plug a nice gap until Bridgehampton is complete. My biggest issue im trying to overcome is the track and catenary. I currently have in place andi06's Track Cat-56, which is a very nice track but the catenary is too high. Ive noticed your using wires of the correct height. I had a look at denisfrs track and cat, but im not too happy with the way it looks. Are you using any other track and cat, or are you using a seperate cat spline? Is there a lower height version of andi06's Track-Cat?
Keep up the goood work mate, it will be a real gem when its complete. Once ive ironed out the catenary ill post a few screenies.

As far as I know this is the only grass reservation of this type available on the DLS. I'm planning to make one myself, but I haven't chosen a grass texture yet. Any suggestions?

@dazza1980 - The catenary used is a mixture, depending on application and how long ago the section in question was built. The only track with built in wire at this height is by denis_fr - the remainder of the overhead is hand placed. I've used a wire spline called 'line only' from a Russian catenary pack on the DLS lowered to suit for much of it, but this is being progressively stripped out and replaced with my own overhead set (as seen in the Bridgehampton South shots). The curved overhead poles are by michael-h. I have also used poles by Andi06 (a spline with wire between), RW1HH and motorman1066, as well as my own (which use Andi's pole model as an attachment).

I intend to publish my overhead wires in the next month or so.

Hopefully this helps...

@Dazza - My overhead system will come with waygauges (like the AJS ones) that allow the contact wire to attach to speed up installation. Alignment on corners isn't always perfect, but it's usually close. Most of the pole & wire combinations in this thread are done as a single trackside object, so they are fairly easy to install as well. More complex and custom arrangements need a bit more care, but they aren't hard...

If you want to try them out I can send an early beta...

Would love to beta your items, i have a number of complex junctions so i think my route would be an ideal external test bed.
Most of the poles ive used are the ones you have mentioned before which are trackside objects (i like these, very easy to apply!) also have used the pole and wires by andi06 i believe.
Not so much me being lazy, but the reason i wanted to use attached objects is that in the town centre there are a number of splines making up the roadways. As you have probably come across, things can start to get very messy and frustrating when adding more splines. So for this reason i was trying to opt for the attached or track and cat approach.
