Fred, glad to see that you're still around! :)
That's an awesome shot too, even if it is MSTS. ;)

It is great to see that you're still with us Fred. Beautiful shot. I do hope that the lighting engine for TRS2009 is improved. MSTS lighting is much more realistic. But, Trainz is just an all around better sim for me.

Thanks Todd and Dietrich. I agree...and have no intention of opening that can of worms. :) I liked this shot, however, and thought that other steamer and SP fans would too. I've been taking a long break from all things trains but am now getting back into it.

Oczywiście parowozy posiadają pełną animację wszystkich ruchomych elementów mechanizmu napędu, rozrządu pary, smarotłoczni i sprężarki. Otwierane okna i drzwi w widoku wewnętrznym ;) Ot taka ciekawostka.

Wow, I like that reskin! Did you do it?
Zorronov
November 11th, 2008, 07:39 PM
Yes. It's a reskin of Ben Neal's modern 4-4-0...something I've been playing with the last few days. I've started a project to expand the NYC steam roster so #999 seemed like a good choice for a 4-4-0 reskin...plus I wanted to try my hand at reproducing the metallic silver script on the tender. :) After setting the world speed record of 112.5 mph on May 10, 1893 and going on a promotional tour for New York Central, she entered regular service on the Water Level Route. Her 86" drivers were replaced with smaller ones for more starting power and she lost much of her finery. Steam fans will note a number of differences between this model and the actual 999 but what the heck...:D
Thanks,
Fred

I'd like to suggest you use his heavy 4-4-0 as the basis for the reskin, since it's more similar to the real 999.;)

Just a point about the World speed record you mentioned their. That was a claimed speed, but was never proven, as such doesn't stand. The loco did how ever still set at the time a world speed record of 82mph. The first loco to reach the authenticated ton was 4472 Flying Scotsman, later flowed by 2750 Papyrus. Both these speed runs where recorded with a Dynamometer car, and the later run by Papyrus the documentation still survives. The first authenticated 112.5mph run was by 2509 Silver Link. The run was an experimental press run for the soon to start Silver Jubilee non stop train from London KX to Newcastle. That same loco also achieved a few other world records on the same day.
1) A distance of 25mph between mileposts 30 and 55 over which the speed was continuously at or over 100mph. That stretch was covered at an average speed of 107.5mph.
2) From Hatfield to Huntingdon a distance of 41miles and 15chains was covered at 100.6mph.
3) The entire distance covered at an average of 100mph continuously was 43miles.
4) Steam world record for average speed of 91.8mph over 70miles from Wood Green to Fletton Jnc.
And something unrelated to the above but steam non the less.

November 12th, 2008, 07:14 PM
The only problem with that is, with the smaller drivers, it isn't possible. The original No 999 was built for one thing and one thing only...to go fast! That's why she had 86" drivers. They were not practical in regular service. It took too long to get up to speed. So, with the many starts and stops on a real passenger route, they had to go. :)

Fred

I need some suggestions from all those steam lovers out there. I haven't ever made a steam engine before this is my first so im not sure im doing it right. Most of the parts you model on a steam engine I have no idea what thier function is. Im not happy with the skins either. I went a bit far with the rust color, and the cab will not be green. I just use a green base to glaze layers up for a nice vivid metal.
http://halbert5150.googlepages.com/462.png
This is a 4-6-2. I know the 4-6-2 has been done before but thats just what I wanted to do. I also intend to do a cab for it just because there are not many cabs out there.

the jack shaft is for balance because of how the rods connect you need a counter balance so that the rods don't bend or snap

The shadows are aproaching the steam era in RENFE, perhaps this express had never existed, but the situation in both worlds (fictional and real) is the same, condemned to dissapear. Her majesty "La Confederación" pulls a large express climbing a steep ramp, the summit is just a few metres behind the photographer.

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd155/tlblade/screenshot1833.jpg
The lines VR K on south bound train. It was bougt over after one of the lines main fiances moved back from Austrailia bring his K class loco with him.

Another one of ole Valley international redients this is a BR 52 Condenser. This loco always has to be doubled up as the loco can't run back wards because of very low rear visability. Here we see it with the Easten European Loco Preservation socitys OK22.

Hmmm, I think this thread needs some Aussie steam. Images also posted in Aussie screenshots thread...
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0000t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0000.jpg)
It's just after sunrise and A2 953 making good time through Tooradin with the mornings down goods to places south...
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0001t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0001.jpg)
Despite the 40MPH speed limit on the train, the A2 looks great thundering towards the flood plains around Dalmore...
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0002t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0002.jpg)
Seen roaring across a private access road, the A2 appears to be making light work of it's train along the flat lines across the flood plains.
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0003t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0003.jpg)
A little further south across the flood plains.
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0004t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0004.jpg)
Since the train does not stop at most stations, we get to see the A2 roar across the twin bridges and level crossing into Dalmore stations.
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0005t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0005.jpg)
Another view of the train at Dalmore, with an M van and an L van sitting in the cattle siding.
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0006t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0006.jpg)
Now really entering flood plain country, the A2 pounds it's way across the Cardinia Creek trestle bridge.
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0007t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0007.jpg)
Only a short distance further on, the A2 blasts it's way across yet another level crossing, with the van still on the Cardinia Creek trestle bridge.
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0008t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/strzelecki/S301_20090722_0008.jpg)
In our parting shot, A2 953 blasts past the whistle board for the level crossing in the last shot.
