Invisible stations

What are is purpose of invisible stations?
I am wondering how I may use them.

Some stations are not made so that passengers can get on and off a train, invisible stations fulfill this role in that you can have whatever station you want yet trains will still be able to load and unload.

They're also good for buiilding stations that are different from the available selection. By mixing different platform splines and buildings you can create new active stations from various parts.

Think of them a little like Lego - you can build whatever you want by using the right bits in the right place.

They make good tramstops too :)
