Scale and how it is used in Trainz

Here is an overview of how scale is used in Trainz. Unlike a physical model that becomes smaller as the scale changes from O to HO all the way to ZZ, Trainz objects stay the same size but the ruler used to measure them gets bigger and bigger.

It is just like the difference between a traditional scale paper drawing and a CADD drawing. In the paper world, the picture got progresively smaller as you changed scales from 1" = 1' to 1/4" = 1' to 1/16" = 1' etc. In the CADD world, the object stays the same while the virtual paper (as well as the ruler used to measure things) got bigger and bigger.

Not an easy concept to grasp just like that so I made a series of screen shots in TRS2004 to illustrate the point.
