Measuring Along the Track

Is there a tool somewhere to use in Surveyor to measure distance along a route? I'm trying to lay out my milepost guides properly.

There is a ruler tool which can measure the distance for you.

Under the spanner tab, Sorry forget the tabs name, as not at the PC with Trainz on it atm.

Lay a ruler out 1 mile long on a straight track, fill it with a mile long train, move the train and mark where each mile marker should go.

TRS2004 has a built-in odometer. I'm not sure if it's present in other versions of Trainz. To enable it load the session in Surveyor, then:
Edit Session Rules > Add > Display Custom HUD > Click the OK tick.
Left click once on "Display Custom HUD" so as to select it > Edit > Select the "Show the custom heads up display" option > Click the OK tick.
Click the OK tick to exit "Edit Session Rules".

Then when you run the session it will display the distance travelled as you drive your loco along the track.

There's a tool called Track Scanner by sforget, KUID2:117746:23230:1 (works in TRS'04, TRS'06, TC 1 & 2 and TS'09).

Place one at one end, place another one at the other end, use the ? on the first scanner and click "SCAN". It'll give you the distance between the scanners and the number and names of trackmarks, signals, junctions etc.

Just make sure the points are set right so the first scanner can see the second one. :)

I'm with Cascade: I have a mile-long train saved as a consist. The only thing I would add to his suggestion is don't move the train along the track (it's a fiddle to get it exactly adjacent to the last mile-post), simply add another consist to lay out exactly another mile with one click of the mouse.

Another handy consist trick is to save one which is 880 yards long with a distinctive car in the exact centre - place it over grade crossings with the centre car on the crossing to quickly place whistle posts 440 yards either side of the crossing.....
