Port Kembla to Coalcliff line

Hello all,

(Edit - Think this should of been in Screenshots, if so, appologies in advance too the moderators)

Well have decided too have a good go at a real world line. I grew up around Port Kembla and worked at BHP for 12 years, so along with quite a few maps, memory, and Google Earth. I have begun my project in TS2009. Comments good or bad are helpful for me too improve my skill with the surveyor, So take a sqiuzz at the picies and let me know what ya al think ( I got think skin, so be harsh as you want too hehe)

Basic texturing here and there, just too add some color into the layout, I dont like all the greyness of the baseboards.

Anyways, hoping too get this as acurate as I can for mileage etc..been using Google Earth, and some maps too get as close as I can too track lengths etc.

Nice work so far, I have thought of doing this area before ..... some time ago though :hehe:

Just thought I would mention that I have a DEM file of the area, from Waterfall to Nowra. This may be able to help you, you could possibly merge part of this layout with the sections you have already started/completed. The file is quite large, but I can remove sections you may not be interested in.

Alternatively, if you ask politely, I would be quite prepared to create the entire route for you from scratch (I'm surprised Craig didn't mention me himself - after all, I am the source for the route of which he speaks). Speaking of going back to scratch, Trent, if you do take me up on my option, I must advise you that any work you have done so far will, unfortunately, need to be done again as it cannot be 'added' to a DEM version of the route...

My apologies for not mentioning this DEM file was created by you Jerker. I was not actually sure if you are still creating DEM files for others so thought no more about it.

Thanks for the replies Seeseeme and Jerker, both your office of assistance was appreciated indeed. This is a track section I really looking forward too get right into, as I travelled along it many times in my life and worked out in BHP for many years. So really brings back memories of all the fun things I saw and did.

Something amusing I still remember too this day, that really now isnt as amusing as it was when I was 12, I would kill my kids if they done this nowdays (go figure LOL)

When I was a kid, I lived at a town north of Wollongong called Scaarborough, and once we nicked some detonators from a workmens shed, and hid in the bushes watching and learning how too place them on the tracks, and sometime later we spaced out 3 of them for a stop, and lucky us got a massive coal train come through and actually pulled up on a not so nice grade, when he realised he had been had he yelled some abuse out loud out the cab of the engine and started going again, the poor bugger had to get a 40 odd loaded coal train moving again up a grade, it took along time hehe. But it ended bad for us, cause when we did'nt realise was he had radioed ahead somewhere about it and police came along the track side road and nabbed us red handed with the remaining detonators etc. Lets say we were grabbing our ankles on the state rails office that afternoon. But was a sort of funny memorial moment about trains as a kid.

Alas now I live in Adelaide where electric trains are non existant(miss the double deckers), and large coal/freight trains rumbling past your home etc are sort of a thing of the past now (Though I sure don't miss the late night freight trains anymore LOL)

So now I am keen to remake the area in Trainz for some freight/passenger runs.

Received the file today from Craig today, with great thanks. So now I begin my route.

I'll post some screenies as I get moving along with it.
