A GBRf class 66 takes a rake of retired EPB stock through Shoeburyness taking the branch to the MoD sidings

The 66 rumbles over Shoeburyness high street, just no one told the crossing keeper she was comming till the last minuite. (actually the gates were raising when this was taken , is there anyway to get them to lower a little more prototypicly? And stay lowered.

Quote :-is there anyway to get them to lower a little more prototypicly? And stay lowered.
Yes, I downloaded the ATLS assets and experimented. They work great and you can place the trigger so the trains do not need to slow down.
A search on the DS for ATLS will bring them up.

Oh ya...in the 40s and 50s CP Rail utilized various ships and airplanes until they decided to just stick with trains.
Thanks for the info and sorry to hijack the thread.

Rob, LieLestoSbrat's Rebuilt Merchant Navy class loco, kuid2:101839:1000:1, is one of the best steamers made for Trainz. Well worth downloading and giving it a run out - it would be interesting to see what it can do on US/Canadian grades!

Not the 307s. They were built for Liverpool Street-Southend Victoria and, to my knowledge, they only actually worked that route throughout their lives in the south east.

There is actually a spline based on the real Temple Meads canopy available on the DLS, the one Angelah is using is from the AJS station kit.
Temple Meads roof: KUID: 71378:1138
Hope that helped

Not sure which picture you want us to look at, is it the goat?
The DS station roof is for either 2006 or TC3 I think and is not available for 2004, the version of Trainz I use to create routes. I do have TC3 and looked at it, it's good.
I did ask the asset creator of they would convert the asset so I could use it but they never replied. So I used the AJS station kit assets instead, not quite right but as near as possible to Bristol Temple Meads.
You will need to reset the canopy to Barrel from the default Gable.
I have not had many quiries about the route so assume it is running okay once the requirements for correct use are put into practice, such as resetting several assets.

Excellent, the perfect route to test my AC EMUs on (Class 302/305/307/317s)
Wont be ready for ages so don't wait up (track work only as far as Thorpe Bay and a bit bogged down with scenery) but I'll try to release it in stages. Will all the above EMUs work for 04 if not can they be modified to work with 04 (I'll need a rundown on how to get 06 onwards bogies to show up in 04)
Cheers for the interest WEN

That's the AJS station canopy roof, not sure what it's called precisely. It's just curved a bit and has the AJS canopy ends in position at the ends but NOT actually attached otherwise they dive some way inside the roof.
Can't remember the wide, there are several to choose from so I expect that is a wide one with ends to match.

The Spennymoor - Bishop Auckland line closed to passengers in 1952 (although occasional miners/football specials ran until 1963), and freight in 1966. Unlike the Bishop Auckland-Durham line it was mostly single track and I imagine had a very traditional branch line flavour. Unfortunately information on this line is quite hard to come by so I've had to make some educated guesses.
This set of screenshots shows the northern end of the line (Spennymoor - Byers Green); once I've made a bit more progress on the scenery on the southern end I'll show some shots on that bit too. I've used the BR Blue era in these shots as a "might have been" but I'm sure it would look just as good with an ex-NER G5 and a short rake of push-pull coaches... ;)

Sonne, I like the look of the overhead kit you've been working on of late. I'm working on some of my own DC Woodhead 1500v stuff, and was wondering what sort of polygon levels your using on your modern stuff. Main reason being to have a rough idea of level of detail I should be looking at on my woodhead kit.

Well, these are British Rail locos, but, none of the screenies are in the U.K.
Firstly, the newly upgraded German layout Niddertalbahn plays host to Classes 56 and 60. Secondly, the French layout - La route de Manon features another 60 and a 92.......I've just added a few accessories along the way.

Hello Andy,
Well, this French route is on the DLS, called la route de manon and it's TRS2004, so, I guess all the assets are as well, however, there's so many different gantries and wires by different creators, from the Czech Republic and France, etc, I'll have to check the kuid numbers on the map for you later and let you know.....
Which picture with the catenery shown interested you the most, as being created in Europe, I wouldn't know if it's MK1, MK11 or MK500000 ......:hehe:

claudius.f website is here:

Catenary under the "Divers" section. They are trainz-build 2.4.
I've got La Route de Manon also (thanks to a plug from ex) and it runs in TRS2006 - it doesn't require built-in items for TRS2007, or the items are available elsewhere.

It's my own work which I'm slowly building to replace what I had used on my Stafford route (i.e Snowsignals built-in 25 kv wire which is too small (in height) to represent Mk1 catenary correctly) . Once I've sorted out enough parts I'll look at releasing it but I'm busy with another project at the moment.

@ex-railwayman- we had a few crossed wires with 47580, we have now sorted the mapping on the windows and changed the yellow seats you'll be glad to hear. It will be issued as 47662/817/819/820 and a separate asset 47291/572/581/582/585, these being the only locos to carry that particular (or peculiar lol) large logo with yellow cab livery.

@ tmz06003, I weren't complaining about the yellow seats Tony, in fact, I quite like the unusual style.....I'll keep this for loco for keeps then, if you're going to change things, and I'll really look forward to the other ex-works 47's also.....You couldn't do a reskin of 47 125 with her full body side Union Jack flag, could you please ??

For unit textures, if you include the line hint=dynamic in the associated .texture file they won't appear blurred; I only usually do this with phototextured units as it improves the look of the side windows.

Yeah I think it's because the 66's are just British versions of the American SD70 series locomotive, but I could be and am probably wrong...
It's also because GMD/EMD are a Canadian company, so if you want more locos, just give us a hollar! That is of course, if GMD isn't completely drowned in this economy crash.

I don't think Foster Yeoman designed anything. From Wikipedia
"Following Foster Yeoman's dissatisfaction with the availability and reliability of British Rail (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail)'s Class 56 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_56) diesel freight locomotive and their satisfaction with their EMD SW1001 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SW1001)shunter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shunter), four Class 59/0s were ordered from EMD and arrived in 1986 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986). A new design to the British loading gauge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loading_gauge) and specifications, derived from the EMD SD40-2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SD40-2), it used the cab layout of the British Rail Class 58 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_58) to aid driver assimilation.
They were the first US (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States)-built (and privately owned) diesel locomotives to operate regularly on the British main line. However, EMD powered locomotives (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_locomotives_of_Ireland#The_General_Motors_I nfluence) have been the mainstay in both the Republic of Ireland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Ireland) since 1961 and Northern Ireland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Ireland) since 1980.
Following Foster Yeoman's example, ARC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanson_plc) purchased four (Class 59/1) and National Power (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Power) purchased six (Class 59/2) locomotives. Foster Yeoman and ARC merged their rail concerns into Mendip Rail (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mendip_Rail), and the rail interests of National Power (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Power) were taken over by EWS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EWS), now DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DB_Schenker_Rail_(UK)_Ltd.)
Ultimately EMD's diligence and flexibility in designing and constructing such a small order paid off in opening the way for the later, much larger, Class 66 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_66) order. This design shares a common body shell but is internally different. The only livery shared between the classes is EWS red and gold, but whereas the 66s have a zigzag gold stripe, the 59s' stripe is straight."

I don't think Foster Yeoman designed anything. From Wikipedia...
I wondered how long it would take before someone called that one out!
Slightly OT, but I'd only seen one 59 back in the mid 80s (not long after they were introduced) until a few months ago when I was out running and 59005 came 'yinging' over a nearby bridge.
At the time I wasn't "on the scene" but I got curious (the arrival of Tornado was probably a catalyst too) and before I knew it I'd picked up my camera again and had a go at routebuilding... :hehe:

I've not posted here for a while, so here's a bumper crop!
A summer afternoon at Kemble Junction on the 'Golden Valley' line from Swindon to Gloucester, sometime around the early 60s....
Pannier Tank 57xx class no. 4612 simmers gently in the bay platform for the Tetbury branch with a single coach, a van and a couple of empty 5-plank wagons. The starter is 'off', but the train seems in no hurry to leave!
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n264/paulsw2/Kembleafternoon01.jpg
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n264/paulsw2/Kembleafternoon03.jpg
BR are trying out Railbuses to help threatened branchlines and here's one on the Cirencester platform waiting to leave with the 14.05 service. Sadly, the railbuses didn't succeed and the Cirencester and Tetbury branches closed in 1964.
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n264/paulsw2/Kembleafternoon05.jpg
Pannier tank 57xx class 3669 comes off the branch with some vans so now the railbus can commence its short journey to Cirencester.
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n264/paulsw2/Kembleafternoon06.jpg
Highly unusual motive power for the mid afternoon Cheltenham to Paddington express. The usual Castle class has been replaced by rebuilt Jubilee 45735 Comet. Strange to see an LMS loco at the head of a set of pristene chocolate and cream Mk1s. Not that the small boys playing football to the left of the footbridge seem to care!
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n264/paulsw2/Kembleafternoon09.jpg
56xx class loco 6645 is well off its usual beat hauling coal trains in south Wales as it heads north from Swindon with a mixed set of mineral empties. Perhaps a running in turn from Swindon works? The train is leaving the entirely cosmetic tunnel built at the behest of Squire Robert Gordon as a condition for running the railway over his land so he wouldn't have to see any trains from his residence at Kemble House!
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n264/paulsw2/Kembleafternoon11.jpg
An unidentified 57xx sits idling in the coal exchange sidings as the 56xx pulls away in the Gloucester direction.
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n264/paulsw2/Kembleafternoon14.jpg
The van train finally gets the right of way to head up the main line in the Swindon direction, seen here in two contrasing views above and below the stone road bridge carrying the A429 over the railway. Yet another 57xx sits in the Cirencester yard headshunt.

Thanks Colin, and others for complimentary words. I'm really hoping I can get this one to the DLS though, as usual with my route building, I've gone a bit overboard, this time with foliage rather than buildings, so I'm not sure how well it will run, unless you've got a supercomputer! Actually, this is the kind of layout that would do well in TS09 native if and when we get a new tree collection.
This layout is a small, 3 square km DEM route using a trackplan that appeared in the Jan 2009 edition of Railway Modeller. I've enjoyed doing it a lot and finding out about Kemble. The railway was so much more varied and exciting back in the 50s and early 60s!

....you did a little winter route last year didn't you, but, I never saw the finished article...
Thanks ex. Yes, I was working on Lavenham in Suffolk as my 'winter' layout. I put it to one side as the nights grew longer and then switched to Kemble as my 'summer' layout. I hope to return to Lavenham and finish it off once the dark nights return. Here's a little reminder of what it looks like....
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n264/paulsw2/Lavenham01.jpg
But I do wonder if there's a market for these 'micro-layouts', ie. short prototypical settings based around a site such as a station, depot etc. They're not really 'routes' are they?

The DLS calls them "layouts", so I wouldn't worry about that!
Lord Claude Hamilton's little maps are some of my favourites, and quite a few other peoples too by the number of downloads. So I say, go for it....
Lavenham still looks as good as I remember from last year - I hope you get it finished soon.

Looks great. :)
I was actually in Blandford on Saturday (the station is long gone, but the trackbed is mostly intact and now a trailway). If you've done the whole of the S&D from Bath to Poole I suspect the New Somerset & Dorset Railway (http://somersetanddorset.blogspot.com/) would like to hear from you... ;)

Hello Paul,
Yep, that's the one, an excellently detailed little creation, glad you've still got it on your hard-drive.......:)
Don't worry about micro-layouts as such, If you don't fancy extending a map for any great length put a portal at each end, just as long as there is enough room to do some shunting and run a freight or passenger train or two into and out of the local area, that's good enough, it doesn't have to be a massive route......
Stovepipe has a good memory in saying that some of his Lordships layouts were small but very playable and extremely popular, which is what this game is all about, and looking at your recent screenies, you've got plenty of detail and quality on show to get us all drooling.....

I'm doing this layout in Vista 64-bit. The strange thing is that I cannot find the this file in Explorer. Previous layouts, which I pasted into 'Maps' are still there, but it is impossible to save any work done on these layouts under the same file name. Apparently this can be a problem with Vista. Read-only files remain read-only files no matter how many times you try and alter the attributes. Same them under a new file name and they don't exist :(

October 2nd, 2009, 02:12 PM
Dave, I've just come across this problem in TC3 when trying to save a route I was working on. Unchecked read-only on my Auran folder so will have to see if that makes a difference for me. Running Win7 64bit here. I do know that Trainz can have a problem also saving when it comes to over write a kuid that is already used for a session. That usually creates a spurious error of no driver present when trying to launch into driver mode. I get around that by cranking up my map kuid number found in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Auran\TC\Settings\kuid.txt I find that is starts at 100 or something and it soon catches up with my own personal kuid range that I use for content creation.

I'm not impressed with TRS2004 in Vista, Rob. I'm wondering whether to bother with it anymore and get TRS2009, or even wait for TRS2010. I'm having problems with IE8 as well. The help site admitted that it wasn't fully compatable with Vista and I should revert to IE7.
I've Googled both subjects of read-only files and IE7 and I'm not the only one having trouble.

May I just say Marky - Your work on that route is SUPERB! Excellent work! May I also just say Thankyou for taking the time to take all the screenshots and giving them to us :D
One quick question - Is the HST 125 that I keep seeing available for download - or ever will be?
Cheers,
-08-
Thank you, I'm now at Hayle so i will soon be getting alot of screenshots, as the Hayle estuary is a lovely scenic area.
The HST was made by Nexusdj, i'm not sure if it's on the DLS yet or not.

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know contact info for nexusdj? I heard him say (earlier in this thread I think) to one guy after one of his units (not on DLS) that if the guy email-ed him at the Skodatrainz adress then he would sort something out :).
Cheers,

I do lurk about on here but I'm afraid that HST is not available anymore due to the problems I experienced on this forum last week .
The livery will be available on JN114's brand new HST once that's released.

Looks about 12 coaches to me at a glance young Tony, well within a Class 40's capability, as long as they're all empty.....:hehe:

Is that a shot of TS2009 S&C ??? How well does it cope, framerate wise with all the splineage please, young man? Just as much as TC3 ??

It's actually 14 coaches in tow which would be be a struggle for a 40 on the S&C but not unknown .....
Here's 40145 passing Penrith with 13 coaches in tow but obviously that end of the WCML is completely flat !! :p

Only installed the route last night so not really had a chance to try it out fully (spent today reskinning). I've got problem's in that my Nvidia 8800GT Video card is now basically out of date so some of the routes that were in okay in TC3 are appearing a bit jerky in 2009 . I'll be buying a new up to date video card next week so I'll report back once that's up and running :)

Didn't realise this was done in MSTS
Its a bit further up than that about half mile from Thorpe Bay, your picture looks right at the enterance to Shoeburyness C2C Depot. I'm only using what I can download so some buildings wont be the same also I'm working from Google Earth so I'm guessing somewhat about the buildings anyway.
I'm just past Thorpe Bay sceenery wise it's taking ages, whos for TRS2011 Railroad Tycoon Edition the same as TRS except the towns sceenery etc is already done and you place the track, stations, depots etc earn money for sucessfull journeys and the added bonus of being able to drive the trainz in a prototypical environment with proper signaling too.

Firstly, thank you both for your comments. This is going to sound bizarre, but I've mentioned it before. All the original maps I have run OK, but Vista won't let me do a Save, saying that I have to rename the file and do a Save As.
When I do a Save As and rename the maps I can alter them, run on them, but this is the bizarre part - they don't exist. I can find the kuids, using TrainzObjectz, but when I use Explorer they can't be found anywhere in the Auran folder.
I have just upgraded my PC Tools security and now find that I can't get into Trainz at all, which is due to some debugger. I have no idea what to do next and given all the trouble with Trainz and Vista 64-bit, I'm giving up. Captain Scarlet told me to reinstall Trainz on my second drive, but if it doesn't install without problems, that's it.

This is a screenshot that I've just saved when trying to open Trainz

@ Escafeld
Now thats more like a nothing in particular.
The only way I stopped all probs with vista (32 bit however) was to install trainz (I use 04) directly into the root directory. I read somewhere that vista needs to right stuff into the program files folder. Back up everything trainz and re-install into the root directory. I can't say if it will solve your problem but I haven't had any problems with trainz and vista since (I don't even have to load it up using admisistrator)
Hope this helps.
:D

It's actually Trainz that needs to write stuff into the program files folder (ie. where your content is saved) and by default Vista does not allow programs to do this.
One solution is to turn off UAC (Google it if you want to try it), and another is to install somewhere other than program files (ie. C:/Auran). I think there are a number of other ways also but I can't remember them off the top of my head!

Running 7 Pro 64bit here on my laptop and it certainly runs better than the old xp64 I had on it. Loading times into windows is a considerable improvement. No real hassle for drivers, only one's I downloaded where for the graphics (always better than windows provided) and the card reader where I had to use the old xp driver. Haven't really ran any game tests on my laptop but TC3 and 2009 went on without any problems in the default locations. Desktop wise I'm still running a RC of win7 although I will stick pro on at some point. Performance wise no problems here what so ever, I can load up TC3 and the full S&C route and session in under 1min, also got 2009 on and thats running ok, but at the moment that's just used for content creation purposes so no real in game tests. Did do a cheeky test on my desktop where I created a 5gb ram drive and copied my TC3 install to that and loaded of the ram drive, as can be expected it goes like **** of a Teflon shovel. But I expected that, considering the main bottle neck in any PC setup is the HDD, even with SSD's their is still a bottle neck. Overall I'm very impressed with Win7 so much so its the first OS I've brought since win2k.

Yes, they are snowsignals, whos models can only be reskinned for personal use, as they are payware.
